Hi there.
I've just joined... I can't find a solution to this anywhere...

I have a n3ds with Luma 9.1 and boot9strap, etc...

EUR console. Latest firmware.

Everything works great, except my cart of Super Smash bros throws up an ARM11 exception (data abort) when I try to start it... no mods.
I've deleted the extra data, and I've tried with and without game patching (I need game patching to play some of my USA carts).

I can only imagine there is a Ram problem... this is the only game that does this, I have a *ton* of games installed - almost reaching the icon limit on a 128gb microSD card. My theory is that loading all these icons into memory leaves not enough Ram available to launch SSB???

So is there any kind of homebrew that can free up some Ram before I launch SSB?
Or could there be something else I can try?

P.s. I have 2 SSB carts... neither work on my n3ds... last time I ran SSB before realizing the issue was before putting CFW on this system.
I have on o3ds in a factory state, un-modded and the carts work fine on that....

Are you able to post a picture of the error? It may be that something else is causing this to happen.

Do you have Monster Hunter or Pokemon Sun/Moon, by chance? Does it do the same thing?

Yes, I have the carts for those... let me just double check to make sure:

MH4U Works no problem
MH Stories Works no problem
P.Moon Works no problem

I thought, let me try some of my other demanding games (also on carts):

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D Works no problem

Hyrule Warriors Legends NO LONGER WORKS!!!!! Oh No!!!
This worked absolutely fine with custom firmware, and I've only discovered this now after having filled up the 128gb microSD with games (I wanted exhaust my use of freeshop before doing a system update).

Here is the error message for HWL:

Reason I asked is all of the above are expanded memory games, and that includes Hyrule Warriors. Odd that some work and some don't.

I've found another error... I had this error before I did a system update, and assumed it would go away after updating.

In Monster Hunter Stories, using the Connecticat... I cannot connect to the internet... here is the error: (by the way I have accepted the agreement, multiple times) .... I've just tried Mario Kart 7 and can use online features... so I can't be banned right?

Is your MH Stories out-of-region? If so, enable game patching in Luma's config menu. If that doesn't work, use this and set it to FFFF: https://github.com/SciresM/EULASetter

In fact, it might help to just do that regardless.

Is your MH Stories out-of-region? *snip* use this and set it to FFFF: *snip No Hyperlinks allowed by newbies*

That did the trick! Thank you, Thank you! ... does this mean I no longer have to worry about out of region issues with any game?

It could also be an issue with the SD card (being corrupted, for example)
Try the following: *snip hyperlinks again*

Ok, before I do this... is my SD card safe? Must I backup the SD card first? Or can I just pop the files on and perform the check... knowing my data is going to remain untouched?

In the meantime I have solved my issues... to a degree.
I have installed the digital version of SSB and HWL, and made use of the Save Data transfer tool.
Everything works perfect now...

*rather strange yeah?*

So I guess the cartridges are now available for when I buy another n3ds or n3dsXL... as I won't be selling them.
Pity HWL has no multiplayer.

At the very least, I can assure you that this isn't caused by a lack of RAM. As pablo said above, back the card up, format it, and run h2testw on it and see if it errors or not. If it errors, then you need to get a new SD card.

Ok, that cleared up my question.
I will go ahead with that operation tonight.

I've also discovered Majora's Mask 3D also throws up the same error.

So my 3 carts that don't work:
SSB
HWL
MM

Digital versions of these games run fine, after updating. I tried digital HWL before updating and it also threw the error... so...

Is there any way to install and then update a cart without actually running it?

Ok... so I fixed everything.

After backing up my sd card, I reformatted it. I didn't use h2testw. Why? It takes hours just to copy the data on the SD card, and I wanted to try something.

Copying everything back onto a freshly formatted MicroSD, and lo and behold... all 3 cart based games now work no problem.

SSB even had all the DLC.... after uninstalling the digital version, I lost the DLC.
So I reinstalled the cia of just the SSB DLC, and got it all back!!!! How strange.

I used JKSM to move my save data for HWL back to the cart version.
I couldn't get the DLC though, using the DLC cia did not install it for the cart version.

Anyone know how to get the DLC for the cart version?

So I am very happy that everything pretty much works. The Badge Arcade no longer works - saying that they cannot write to the sd card... So the errors are probably related to the quality of my sd card and getting a new one is probably the way to go... but for the cost of a new one, I can do without Badge Arcade.
