Site on the card is "r4ids.cn".

I set it to N, did the ntrboot hack, and that worked fine. Fully updated my system and everything after.

I then switched it over to D, and it booted into the menu fine. Once. Started a DS game, worked great.

Then I turned it off, go back, and now anything I try to do with it results in either a white screen or "An error has occurred."

Did I get a bad card, or a fake, or what? Any way to fix this?

EDIT: Now the 3DS doesn't appear to even think there's a card in the slot at all...

Is the switch all the way fully over to normal mode? If it is, switch it to ntr mode and then back to normal mode

I actually already tried that twice. No change. :(

EDIT: I tried disassembling the entire card and basically... um, scratching off a couple of bits which looked like they had excess plastic. Kind of reckless, I know.

Coincidence or not (?), it booted properly again.

Only once so far. Will see if it fails and/or succeeds again.

:wink:Hmmmm

At what point did you turn off the 3ds?

While the game was playing, when you were in the game selection menu, or you exited everything and you were at the home menu then turned it off?
Home Button, exit, then turned off.

Also installed a couple VC-inject CIAs in-between the first successful boot and the first failure, and loaded one of them to confirm it worked (Mother, original Japanese Famicom version). Not sure if that could even possibly be relevant, but...

I've noticed the card doesn't seem to fit very well in the 3DS cartridge slot. I'm actually a little worried that I might bend a contact or something if I use it too often. (That's a thing that can happen, right?)

Has anyone else noticed this problem? Maybe I didn't close it right after opening it up and flipping the switch? But then, isn't it likely I might break something if I squeeze extra hard to get it closed?

Are you sure you posted in the right place? Just from what you have said. It sounds rather out of place for this.

Yes, I posted about an R4i Gold 3DS Plus in a thread titled "So I got an R4i Gold 3DS Plus" in which a person is having problems getting an R4i Gold 3DS Plus working.

Just got an error again...

That it worked earlier may have just been a coincidence after all.

...Though it seems to work maybe one in three times now, and it was a long streak of "nothing" before. This is really weird. And kind of annoying.

I've personally had no issues with mine, perhaps you should inspect the PCB for any possible damage or damage in the cartridge slot (this is all I can think of aside from a possible bad cart)

The PCB at least looks fine, and I'd be pretty dismayed if the slot were damaged, since the system itself is brand new.

I'm sort of hoping there's just something preventing a solid contact between the card and the pins in the slot or whatever, and it'll work itself out with use... but that might be too optimistic...

It sounds like something is wrong with your cart. Have you tried and DS games to see if they give this error to make sure nothing is wrong with your TWL firm?
I haven't had any physical DS games for a few years, now... 3DS games seem to work fine, of course.

Also maybe of note (?) is that it always seems to work fine after I've actually gotten into the menu. .nds files, etc., never fail to start or lock up or anything, at least so far. But if I exit to the Home Menu and try to start into the R4 menu again, I usually end up looking at an error screen a couple times before it works.

3DS games don't run in TWL mode, do you have any other flashcarts or DSiware games? Basically just anything that can trigger TWL mode. DSiMenu++ can work too, since it runs in TWL mode.

Finally got around to actually checking some DSiWare.

Has loaded without problem five out of five times, so far.

So it must be either the card or the slot.
