Apologies for the bump, but I am trying to create a forwarder simply for convenience (I already got my ROM to work on DSi Menu++), but the program only creates a .nds file, no CIA. I know it's in the FAQ but I've already tried shortening the rom name (to 'KHD.nds') and creating a folder, but still no luck. Same thing happened with another rom, so I'm not sure what the issue could be.

I created a cia-file with the Forwarder3DS-v2.9.6 (Phoenix Wright - Trials and Tribulations) and installed it on my 3DS. If I start the game, I get a red screen which is titled "Guru Meditation Error!"

Anyone can help?

Did you set "Automatically set ROM path", and dragged the .nds files from the SD card (not the PC itself), to the Forwarder3-DS window? If so, what OS are you using on your PC?
i just done this and it finally worked for me, didn't read close enough and didn't notice i had to drag it from my SD to the application. Though is it possible to make an option to manually set ROM path? its kinda tedious having to remove my SD every time to "automatically set ROM path".

Yes. Just unset "automatically set ROM path", and type in the path.

Does anybody know why my Forwarder3DS.jar file isn't running? Whenever i run it, it just makes a make_cia.exe and a setting note. That's it, doesn't run. Iv'e got Java SE, JRE, and JDK installed, am i missing anything? Or is it something else?

Only time I've had that happen to me was when it was considered "from another system" so it would run properly. See in the Properties if there is an "unblock" button, otherwise I don't know what could be the issue either.

Man, My hacked 3ds isn't OP enough without clickable DS icons on the menu. I feel so left out. Gonna need to use a different computer or something.

Just try uninstalling and reinstalling Java, perhaps you just have too old a version or something so the framework doesn't allow the file to run properly and also try redownloading the file too after you reinstall Java. Try this before rushing to a different computer, perhaps it's just some dumb issue from an oversight on your end.

me again, i have one more question. I created a forwarder of a Japanese game (twilight syndrome kinjirareta toshi densetsu), and i got this from it. When i launch it brings me to a generic error screen (from nintendo) and i have to reboot the console. How would i go about deleting this if i cant find the title ID in fbi?

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
