Hi,

So I made a mistake and updated a backup game while in CFW. Now i’m stuck with two questions:

1.
Will this get me banned, and if so: my console or my Nintendo account?

2.
I don’t care about multiplayer, but I would miss being able to update games... is updating games still possible when banned?

Thanks for the info!

Thanks.

Being banned, what does that disable for me exactly? Online multiplayer and eshop access, or more features?

And, have there been known cases where this has lead to bans (updating games while in CFW)?

You cannot play games online or access the eShop from your console. However, if your account is not banned (which it usually isn't) you can still buy/download stuff from their website and select "Update Download Progress" for content to be downloaded to the Switch after getting banned.

Yes, multiple people have been banned for updating in CFW.

hello so in recapt, the safest way to play backups is doing a nand backup before hack it and then install everithing via NSP offline. When we want to play online we just restart the clean nand ? right?.

the problem i can see is loosing save data. id back that up first, but you may have already done that. lol
i was thinking the same so we should do 2 copies of nand, one the "pirate" and the clean nand, so uncle nity doesnt get mad and we buy online games, every boddy win

How do you do nand backup before hacking it? Don't you need to use CFW before being able to do a backup?
You cannot unfortunately since you need to hack the console to dump it but nobody has been banned so far just for backing up their NAND. Also, you don't need to load a CFW to backup the NAND, Hekate is a bootloader that backups the NAND.

So, guys, I have more questions than answers :S
1. I plan on using my SX to backup my own games (cause I h8 carrying cartridges around) in this case is it safe to download the updates on OFW?
2. I assume playing games online means I have to carry around those carts to be on the safe side.
3. Having a backup of your nand made in Hekate means you have a nand that hasn't met any cfw, that's the advantage of it basically?

  1. Not 100% but much better than updating them in OFW
  2. People have been banned for playing their legitimately made backups online. There is always a risk when going online with a modded console
  3. Yes and should be restored prior to going online if you are trying to avoid a ban

Thank you very much!
So I guess my SX license won't be seeing the light on my switch anytime soon.
Also one last question I'm working on an emulator for hbmenu, I obviously restart my system before playing my games. Does that also put me at risk of some sort of ban?
Should I also make nand restores in this case?

Logically yes, but the risk is unknown. Working on an emulator sounds a little more dangerous than a fully functional one in theory (because you don't know what type of data is being stored on the console).
