Is this only for recently bought switches? I bought one in Japan in April this year at Toys r Us and it came with 4.1.0. I already updated it to 5.1.0. I haven't tried RCM tho.

We really have no idea when these appeared (could be days or weeks, and we just haven't had any one report it until now), and they are part of a mixed batch. But April is probably safe.

There's not that many people buying a Switch to hack it, so its very hard to know exactly when these things started showing up in user hands.

Yeeeaaah, the lack of softmods on 5.x.x kinda kills any enthusiasm I had in the Switch hacking scene.

Well at the very least we always have a entrypoint that is easy to use (and can even be turned into a hacky coldboot with D+/D- soldering), but I do agree that the lack of a softmod on 5.x+ is disappointing.

We can however not completely rule it out though, Deja Vu might be patched, but not the entire chain of exploits is.

Try if you can and report back. Chances are yours is fine, though.

Hopefully, the switch is hackable. However, I am waiting for a softmod solution. RCM is like a last resort solution for me. I don't think I will try RCM anytime soon. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Not gonna hold my breath to be honest, I've pretty much given up on it.

I know you got your answer already but I just wanted to let you know that one of the people who bought a Switch with the exploit patched out bought his in July.
My 2018 HAC-S-JXE-C3 serial is XAJ70043979XXX purchased in Hong Kong on 8th July 2018.

As others have said we don't really know. April sounds rather early, so I highly doubt it but you should try to run Hekate it's rather simple, and then report back here if you can. Getting data on this helps a lot.

I am very sceptical that it will happen in the foreseeable future, but not ruling it out completely. Now that the patched units are coming out, we can expect renewed interest in the softmod hunting so ya never know, despite the odds being small.

Alright cool I'll try it soon then though I am curious how hard was it to find a jig that worked for you? I can't tell where to buy one from that'll actually work.

@gamesquest1 offers jig that works great with Switch so you can PM him.

I use jig that I bought from him - works after first attempt and won't hurt rail pins.

Yeah, I tried to search about the release time of Fusee Gelee and I think I bought it before the Fusee Gelee was released. I think mine is not patched yet as the patch has only been reported recently. I don't think I will use mine for RCM anytime soon.

One thing that I notice tho. Around May they depleted the stock of Switches in Japan (at least in my area). Only black switches available and only 1 per customer limit. I was guessing Nintendo were updating their product. This is before the news of the minimalist Switch unit (without the dock).

This is all speculation, but it's very possible. Nintendo, Nvidia and other companies using the T210 in their products was informed about Fusee Gelee some time in late 2017. So they had plenty of time to react. It is very possible that new units in Japan from earlier have this patch, but we don't have any evidence yet.

So if you buy a new Switch and update it online then Nintendo's goal for the last 10 years will finally be achieved: they have produced a system of absolute stability.

Didn't they say Nintendo needs to launch a revision with something to do with the GPU in order to patch this? I Thought this meant complete Hardware revision just like New 3DS XL

No. The flaw lies in the BootROM -- that is, the code that's loaded before anything else you turn the system on. This is read-only, and it's hard coded onto the Tegra CPU, so that a malicious program can't change it. It also means Nintendo can't change it, so the one your console comes with is the one it will have forever. If that BootROM is vulnerable, the entire system will stay vulnerable. Forever.

There is only one time the BootROM can be written to, and that's during manufacturing. All Nintendo needs to do is use a different (more secure) BootROM in all the Switches they make from now on. And, apparently, that's what they've started doing.

The only hardware being changed is the Tegra CPU, and it's only being swapped for a nearly identical one that's more secure.

TL;DR All they need to do is use a new revision of the same CPU.

Yes, all old models can update as much as they want and Fusee Gelee will always work.

However: Softmods are only possible on 4.1.0 and under. For coldboot you need to be on 3.0.1 or lower.
So if you want a coldboot then you need to buy a Mario Odyssey or Splatoon 2 bundle Switch from a scalper?

Would like some advice please.

I’m now considering buying a second switch that can be hacked via the hardware exploit (SX Pro, etc). So 2 questions...

1. Is this a good idea to get a second unit or should I just crack on with the one I have?

2. If I order a switch online now (live in the UK) what are the chances of getting an old model? Is there anyway I can tell without opening the box If the console is hackable?

Thanks peeps

How can I verify if I buy a new switch, if it is hackable or not? Is there any way to find out without taking it out of the packaging? Thanks!

1. If you plan to have 1 console for original games, 1 for backup games.
I would install SX OS on the old one. If anything happen to your new one, it is still under warranty.

2. This is just my opinion, chance to get a patched one should be lower than Asia region at this moment.
