I see ... In that sense, I guess it is either better to buy SX OS or wait for it to be cracked. Thanks for sharing the info about exFAT. I didn't know any of that.
Most of what we are able to do with the Switch on the free side of things has been pulled from the WIP source-code of Atmosphere. Stuff like homebrew launching and save modification have been made possible because of it. Hekate (the name of the bootloader that enables us to boot into a CFW) also accomplished several things such as NAND dumping as well as allowing us to boot the WIP Atmosphere. What I'm trying to say is that if exFAT support is added into Atmosphere, it will most likely be copied and spread out into the community.

So I don't think my question about the .xci files was answered, do I only need one of those files for the exFat upgrade to work, or do I need all of them for a given dump?

You would need the entirety of the dump. Theoretically, you don't as the exFAT update is probably stored within a specific section of the cartridge but given that no one has tried looking for it (I think) or that you don't know which part you're downloading even has that specific part, you would need the whole thing anyways.

Can I update my switch to a specific firmware? I'm on 3.0.1 and I think new games requires higher than that, what is the recommended FW in my case to play most games but not to loose ability to install Atmosphere (permanent) in the future?

Developers stated that Atmosphere will work on any firmware. However, there's a possibility to update your switch without burning fuses (so you can downgrade later on): https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...nofficially-without-burning-any-fuses.507461/

Hey,

New registered user here. I think I remember this site from back in 2003-2004, the days of scouring the internet for GBA and GBC roms. Really digging the new layout, much more modern and easier on the eyes.

That being said, I am a casual these days and after having traded my PS4 in for a Switch last week, became obsessed with trying out this Switch CFW. It has been far more challenging than all the silly things I’ve done in the past. I have a few comments/questions below. Could you generous folks take a look and help clarify some things for me?

· Paperclip / aluminum foil gimmick – I’ve been trying with limited success. Is there a seller of these 3-D printed tools that fit right in, or is it likely that these will be obsolete because there will be a more permanent CFW mod in the future? I want to buy one or two of these 3D printed tools.

· Micro-SD card – I bought a 128GB Samsung EVO Select card that required an additional update once inserted into the Switch. It seems to be working perfectly fine. Is there a reason there are so many threads (perhaps outdated) mentioning FAT32 format? If it works the way it is for me, should I care about changing the format?

· Incomplete files – There are few things in life more frustrating than watching a “tutorial” video where they have far more folders and files than what is provided by the download links. They just nonchalantly and conveniently act like it's normal. Why is it that when we download the ZIP (usually from github), it is always incomplete? Why would anyone do this? The PQSE save editor doesn’t even have an executable file? The file that it does have in there doesn’t do anything (opens and closes immediately). Is my computer messed up? Is the incomplete ZIP downloads due to some sort of “regulatory” issue? Are the days of READMEs and FAQs no longer a thing? It sometimes seems to me that being mysterious is intentional.

· CFW App store – How often is this Appstore updated? I wanted to edit my PQSE save and was so happy to finally have found a working version of the editor. I had to open so many links before I found a download with a working executable file that I don’t even know where I got the program. Using EdiZon from the App Store, I backed up my save file, edited the file on the computer, and tried to “restore” it on the Switch. Unfortunately, this last step does not work. It was a massive headache but “research” concluded that the app in the “app store” is outdated. Some users apparently are unable to upload their saves with the older version.

· Manually adding programs to the ROOT of the Micro SD – if we just download an app (like EdiZon), and drop the folder to the root, is it supposed to work? I downloaded the most recent version to fix this upload issue but when I go to Albums, EdiZon does not work (it is missing a file or something). Basically, is “installation” through the Appstore the same as dropping a folder with the program to the ROOT? It didn’t work for me. If someone could PM me how to get the right EdiZon and get this PQSE save working on my Switch, I will forever be grateful.

· Using other peoples’ save files – if I bought a game and downloaded someone’s data that is 100% complete, does this impact my profile or console in any way? Is this a ban-able offense? Asking because PS3 used to let you download saves online in the earlier days before updates killed it off. Are there trophies (or whatever) that this might harm? I haven’t played a Switch game yet so I am not sure. And I don't care about achievement trophies.

· Any other pointers? Is there a universal file that all apps must have for it to work (.NRO?) What is your favorite mod / app? What is something cool that CFW provides?

My apologies for the lengthy post. It’s been a difficult 48 hours knowing that I failed to follow tutorials made by 20 year olds (I'm not pointing fingers). I’m not even going to get started on the Zadig driver installation, ADX browser launcher, etc. Aside from the PSP Pandora battery thing (something I never figured out), I’ve never been so irritated when following guides. Snipping and measuring that paper clip, man...Bottom line is I am able to get to the CFW screen. I just need to get EdiZon to work to get the modded Pokemon Quest save file restored to the Switch. Please help.

Anyway, hope someone has the time to read and respond to some of my questions. Appreciate the help in advance.

For your first two questions. Yeah, people do sell RCM jigs on eBay and such. I myself got one, and it works just fine. They aren't expensive. You *can* install AutoRCM to get into RCM mode every time you boot without the jig, but do read before you do.

As for the other question, many are using FAT32 because they don't have the exFAT update installed, I suppose that isn't your case.

Hey so I tried the .bat file and am stuck. Here's the console output

Code:
Failed to read XCI header!
Done!
The system cannot find the file specified.
Could Not Find C:...\newdirectory\NULL
unable to open out\nx\package2: No such file or directory
unable to open out\INI1.bin: No such file or directory
Press any key to continue . . .

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Every .xci file seems to be identical in these .rar files, they are named the same and everything so I just dragged one over. I followed the instructions pretty much to the letter with the keys.

any suggestions?

I am sorry to ask this as it has been discussed before. I am just terribly indecisive, and in a slightly different position.

I just got my Switch a while ago, on 4.1.0, and have left it sitting in the box mostly. With that said, I have not been online at all. I have no donor games for swapping, but that may not be needed soon anyways.

My dilemma is, should I update to 5.1.0, update for SDXC, download some demos, let the lil one play Pokemon Quest, enjoy the Octopath demo (and possibly hex that), and allow for some more patience? Or is it still better to just wait it out to see if 4.1.0 offers a potentially better boot solution sometime soon?

I have read and read, and know I could update fuse-burnless, but that doesn't seem like a better option for me. It is not 3.0.0, so the benefit may not even be there.

This is probably more personal choice, but like I said, I am terribly indecisive. I appreciate your opinions and input!

P.s. At this point, I have just made a full NAND dump and retrieved my keys.

Man, am I supposed to compile all these .xci files into one master .xci, because I have no idea how to even start doing that. All I know is there are a ton of them and they don't look any different from each other to me. The only thing the other guy says about it is "step 6: Inside of the directory we created, drag the game dump .xci onto the patch-cfw.bat file." I'm pretty sure I'm missing a step here but I don't know what it is.

I am on FW 4.1. I setup AutoRCM. If I update to 5.1, do I lose AutoRCM?
AutoRCM bricks the BCT which gets fixed when you're updating your consoles firmware. So you need to install AutoRCM again after updating.

As you said, it's a personal choice. Lower firmeware has more vulnerabilities and developers stated that 4.1.0 might get a warmboot solution later on. If you don't mind using a jig once and keep your console in standby, that'll be fine as well. Again, it's your decision and depends on what you want and how patient you're.

So I haven’t been paying much attentive to the scene hoping the process would speed up. My question is, if you install Home brew and go into airplane mode to use it then turn off my system to play online will I still get banned?

We can't say that for sure yet. It might be safe.

I'm on 4.1.0 and I'd like to use LayeredFS. what should i do?
LayeredFS supports only 5.x. You would need to update if you want to use it or wait until there's a better solution. You can also update your firmware to the latest version without burning fuses. So you can downgrade later on, if you want to go back to 4.1.0.

Man upgrading to 5.x sounds very tempting now.

When using SX OS: can I actually rename the XCI files or do they have to stay as they are ("bbb-ahhek4k-...") in order for the system to read/find them? thanks :)

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
