Fan-made Fallout: New Vegas mod "New California" to launch later this year

Bethesda games are known for their modding communities, and 2010's Fallout: New Vegas is no stranger to that fact. Now, after 5 years of efforts by a team of fans, the expansive mod "Fallout: New California" is almost complete. Originally revealed in 2013 as "Project Brazil", it was a mod that would include a brand new story, set as a prequel to New Vegas, with new companions, characters, and side quests. As of June 1, the main story and integral features to New California are complete, but the modding team claims that they'll be working on adding side quests before they fully release the modpack on October 23.

For those interested, there will be a beta signup around July, where a limited version of the mod will be given out to be tested, letting players get a glimpse of what the mod entails. Over 100 amateur voice actors, programmers, writers, and composers have been involved with creating content for the mod.

wont this get a cease and desist letter too? seems like announcing big fan projects is just asking for C&D stuff.

No.

Bethesda doesn't have a murder boner for fan projects like Nintendo does. Especially since they, y'know, publicly support mods for their games, which is what this is.

Fallout and TES both support modding, I don't see why a big mod-expansion would get C&Ded

We haven't even seen anything about 76 apart from a teaser, not really sure how you can compare the two
I've heard it's basically an online survival-type game, along the lines of Rust. So those that prefer single-player story-driven Fallout will definitely like this mod better.

Well they have to seeing as their games barely function without mods. Fallout 3 barely meets what I consider needed to be a working game without modding it to fix the incessant crashing and stuttering it has on many pcs, even ones far more than capable of running it. Also there's an article going around that Bethesda will not allow modding in the new game, but only time will tell if that's true.

Assuming it's the online DayZ-like it's quite likely to be, then obviously no, modding won't be allowed.

Be interesting to see which gets the most hype out of this and 76, since they're releasing similar-ish times - I suspect Bethesda themselves will be more interested than most actually! But whatever happens, can't wait for this! Glad to see it finally finished (something I'd put money on NOT happening with the Beyond Skyrim project..)

The only time I remember Bethesda having an issue with a mod was the recreating of Fallout 3 in Fallout 4 engine.
However they seem to be fine with other recreations like Morrowind recreated in Oblivion and Morrowind and Oblivion in Skyrim. Even the New Vegas in Fallout 4 hasn't been shutdown.
This mod looks to be mostly original content so I doubt this will get a C&D.

Last time I played fallout was last year.I pretty much finished new Vegas and all its dlc on the 360 before moving over to pc and I'm glad I did since it was a amazing game.I can't even push myself to finish fallout 4 due to the terrible perk system. If anyone can recommend a good perk mod that fixes the terrible perk system in fallout 4,I might give it anoughter chance, but then again this mod looks very promising for me and will probably get me back into fallout again.

What a stupid thing to say, free mods are a benefit of PC that no console has wide support for. PS4 and XB1 are left in the dust here as well.
Except the PS4 and Xbone both officially support mods, for devs that can both supporting them anyways. There are restrictions, of course, but for the most part the only thing missing are mods that drastically change original files and things like prostitution mods that's kind of it.

I had a weird thought, Sega with the Saturn it was a train wreck a pile of chips, but it does kind of fit the design philosophy of Sega at the time.... The Genesis/Sega CD/32X machine was probably loads of fun to program for

Damn, the new COD coming soon is 310gb on series s/x

I think you only get like 425gb on a series s hard drive, so you get 1, 2 next gen games max
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, so you need to have another series s if you wanna play more games?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Nuh you buy extra HD n add to it, but not cheap
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@BigOnYa, how can a console have more than 1 hard drives?

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, oh Yea I recall my PS3 can do that

and also because blackouts here are very common and that could damage the console
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
Do you have a surge protector or an UPS?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea but to play the next gen games, you must have those games on internal, or buy the official ssd expansion cards, which are expensive
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, dunno what each one of those are
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@MysticStarlight, my PS3 was already modded when my dad bought it for me and my brother
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
A surge protector is a device that protects your electronics from fluctuations. I recommend having your console plugged into one of those
  • MysticStarlight @ MysticStarlight:
An UPS is even better because it has an internal battery that keeps your system on even if the power goes out, but it's much more expensive obviously
