Meh, if you gonna use TX and play game on latest FW, just update and use exFAT, your 4GB problem now solved.
Actually that makes sense since TX is providing a simple solution for users who don't want to be bothered with doing too much work on their end. The question still remains on where exactly the backups are being loaded from. There's not enough conclusive evidence to say it was being read from an SD card.

  • Q: How are game ROMs launched? What format do they need to be in?
    A:
Games ROMs available right now from release groups are compatible as-is.
Copy the XCI files to the root of your Nintendo Switch microSD card so SX OS will be able to find them.
It's in the FAQ on TX's website.

I know. I was thinking about using airplane mode in emunand. This way, they cannot know so cannot ban you. Eather way you won't be able to play online so...

The PSVita kept an offline log of what you do on the system and sent information out even on airplane mode. I have yet to see a ban from Sony, but let's not act like Nintendo wouldn't do something so simple. Even if Nintendo doesn't abuse airplane mode, they can do it the next time you connect to the internet.

Even Android phones send out information to Google and get your location when you have Wifi+LTE+GPS+Location off.

So has it been confirmed that you need exFAT-formatted cards to load xci files >4gb? I thought SX OS would have a way of joining split files on FAT32-formatted cards, but it sounds like that's not the case.

I would say its due to the fact that a) they have not advertised a method of joining multiple 4 GB .XCI files into one and b) they mention you can use the latest firmware which has the SDXC support added it in. Honestly, if you're going to be using TX, you don't need to be on a lower firmware since the exploit they're using works on all current Switch revisions regardless of firmware. But for those who want to use both TX and whatever the community comes up with, they will need to have the community come up with something to load .XCIs larger than 4 GB.

Eather way, if you use a emunand that never connects to the net, it will never be possible for nintendo to see your games log. Come on, it's simple to see xD

and why does it matter if they do ban you? you banned yourself doing that lol :P
No you don't? They banned people that used Gateway or Sky whith public headers, like people will use on Switch. This way, they could play pirated and legal games, the second ones online.

well gateway people were not banned in reality until sky3ds was up lol, your solution would require a lot of space in the micro sd card and would require an updated sysnand, the emunand must be unlinked from the sysnand for that to work, but man if you want to play online, getting another switch for legit things is a better solution, we dont even know what info is sent to nintendo, they could spy the contents of the sd card afaik

Dude, I was talking about an hypotetical use. This is an idea, not something you have to do madatory. Please, and again, I don't even wanna pirate anything. This is just a posible solution. Something that can be done.

Are you basically saying you'll play online on sysNAND with game cartridges you bought, and only play pirated games offline on emuNAND? That would work, but then you need to buy all the games you want to play online.

If you play a pirated game online, both sysNAND and emuNAND might be banned.

A copy of the OS, on the sdcard. Takes space, can be modified and launched from there, but your system partition (nand) stays clean. (Unless you make it dirty for no reason (looks at TX)).

True, but sysnand will have no traces of your emunand activities. If you are not TX and put some personaly coded files there. (TX, we think for our users - so they dont have to, and get banned...). So those are two separate environments. Think of it as rooms. One room you pirate in, the other one you dont. :)

Thing is, Nintedo might detect (online) all rooms they didn't build.

(So dont go online with emunand, but with sysnand and you are fine. At which point you'd have to decide - do I want "online" (sysnand has to be most current firmware), or do I want "chance of dongle free in the future" - in which case, sysnand stays on any low firmware you want to stay on. (no online)

With the TX' OS you get neither one of those options.

They say "because there is no interest in the broader public" - what they really mean though is - "our customers are too stupid to do complex things". So we give them piracy, say - you will accept bans - and to only use our solution from now on. And now please hand over the money in the extasy fuled vodoo orgies, that gbatemp threads with "sale link here - I bought! piracy!" threads usually are.)

TLDR; All the dumb people go with TX, and then can't complain to any of the bright people in the future. But they can ask TX for "service" - because they now have TX DRMed Switches, son.

Lol what a read, and as of now the bans are for someone that used homebrew as is, emunand would only work in that scenario, emunand is not complex man, but its not really needed if you follow the guidelines of not using piracy online, nintendo can check everything you do, even if the carts have the same header or such, but most of the time bans come when you are noticed doing something you should not, probably bans will occur because people risk it by playing backups online, as has always been like that, you call people that buy tx dumb, but I would say that the dumb one is another, we will probably see when atmosphere is out, people doing more stupid stuff than getting banned, like really bricking their console :P you are like a dude in the 3ds with gateway, its so funny to see people like you

New FAQ says they'll support split rom files for those using FAT32.

Aha.

I'm just mirroring the sentiment that I got in the TX is selling a pirated OS thread (which they are not, because they apparently arent selling the OS) - from people close to the development of the TX solution, which was "people will always get banned" *shrug*.

To make this absolutely clear.

Every step TX can "save". Every 32GB they dont have to make their customers install on their SD card, will get them more sells. They'll take that over a better, but more complex solution every day.

Their entire business model is based around "people are dumb" and, "cant handle delayed gratification". (When you are literally up against a better open source solution, that will chase you maybe from day one - it takes a special kind of person, to go with a brand, that then DRMs the hacking stuff that a person puts on their console...).

If we are going by the Forrest Gump proverb of "stupid is as stupid does", and actually analyze approaches...
- One company "innovated by bricking your Switches" and sells you detectable sysnand modifications on top of it - and will have you store pirated gamestates, on your main partition.

- The people defending that approach say "that you don't have to go online - if you don't want to get banned from going online".

- And then TX says - go online to "update to most recent firmware.." (because we don't provide you with any.)

I mean... Do I have to explain my thinking here?

So i have a question, was the 3DS/Wii U/Wii able to update offline? I mean downloading the update from the web and "inject it" on the console?

I think that would be a good way to update EmuNAND without going online and risking Ninti seeing something.

Edit: So i just looked up and i found SysUpdated for the 3DS. That could be a good option to play the latest games in EmuNAND without going online, right?

A little backstory because its interesting. As a Gateway user, I have been waiting since February of last year for their launcher.dat to support using EmuNAND on the latest firmware so I can go online. But as of today, they still haven't released it and may never will. So, people figured out what exactly is needed to be updated to play online without breaking EmuNAND compatibility. The system updates always contain multiple files such as ones that disable CFWs like Gateway, improve the stability of the device, or implement updates in certain modules that are detected to make sure you can go online. That last bit came in the form of an update for something involving the friends feature (can't remember the exact name of the title), but this was all was needed to be added to my 3DS to go online. Essentially, I am running a Frankenfirmware on my 3DS to play online while using the Gateway.

Moral of the story is we need a tool that can download the individual update files for each system update of the Switch. And so far, I have not seen a tool that does that. But I suppose if we figure out which files are checked for being able to go online, installing the appropriate titles will let us go online without actually updating. Frankenswitches for everybody.
