Japan gets Resident Evil VII Cloud Version for the Nintendo Switch

Resident Evil VII is getting a Nintendo Switch version, just not in the traditional sense. Titled "Resident Evil VII Cloud", players will be able to download a 45MB launcher onto their Switch, which will stream the entire game through the cloud. You'll need a constant stable internet connection to access it, and as of the initial announcement, it's only going to be available in Japan. All of Resident Evil VII and its DLC content is playable, and there's even a 15 minute free demo of the game for those curious to try it out. After that, it'll cost 2,000 Yen to rent the title for 180 days. Resident Evil VII Cloud will be available on the Japanese Switch eShop on May 24.

So here is the deal: Take cloud stream game or no game. What would you choose? Would you want to never play the game or play the game on the cloud?

I see this is a way to play impossible port for Switch even if it mean limit in mobility.

As someone who played quite a bit of Steam Link in basically best case scenarios (gaming mode on TV, wired controller, Gb LAN connection, just a L2 switch in between) and consider that unplayable for most games...I agree. Cloud gaming works for turn based games, visual novels and even slow paced RPGs....but anything that relies on precise camera movement, jumping, shooting, etc. is basically a chore to play

what? re7 doesnt do anything remotely spectacular its isnt a huge open world game full of details and toning down the resolution abit and the textures and put the game on 30 fps does not take away any horror...
Ur kidding me ? Okay, not gonna go in to this discussion. If you think it can run fine on the switch then that is okay for me

So im guessing they will be streaming the pc version too so all button references and prompts will be adressed to keyboard stuff?
I really doubt they would be streaming this, without matching up the controls for the Switch.

This is a really bad idea. Just look where "The Power of the Cloud" has lead Microsoft with Xbox One, selling less than a half of what the direct counterpart did.
Not sure why cheaper services means a really bad idea. If anything, that would make it better. It is not like you are keeping the game. Besides, sometimes Sony does it around the same price too.

Curious.. What's wrong with Resident Evil 7 Cloud version? There is Resident Evil 7 Gold version coming for PS4 with all DLCS.

You get a free 15 minute trial, so you have no one to blame but yourself if that happens.

I don't think so, honestly. It'll probably get more commonplace, but you can't fix latency because of physical limitations. For genres requiring fast responses it's never going to work properly.

5G internet. Said to have a latency of 4-8 ms. Xbox live recommend is 14ms and under. Ps now recommend is 8ms. My internet at home is 11ms. My free trial of ps now worked decent enough. Only reason I don’t keep is due to the 20 a month price tag. I expect once 5G becomes mainstream, for cloud gaming to become much improved.

Whew, what an awful idea. They're probably only doing it so they don't have to bother porting the game to the Switch at all. From what I recall, the game is quite optimized for PC/consoles, maybe it's more a matter of "porting this game to ARM and getting it to run just as well would take to long" rather than just "meh Switch is a shit console let's just stream that shit who cares lolololol"

i'd choose to play the game on its most adequate platform in a practical manner so i that i do not lose sanity due to dealing with bullshit, regardless of it being multiplatform and on how many systems it was

incredibly, it is okay for a system to not have all of the videogames no matter what the compromise is. it is also okay to own more than one system, regardless of what the corporate warriors may tell you

all of those are scenarios that you can possibly consider

The future is gaming stream devices. Hardware you can sell on the cheap and have PC like quality graphics. These will sell like hotcakes.
Internet technology will improve and get faster making connection speed a non issue. Its a matter of time for technology to improve to make this useable.
Then there will be a split between people that like physical copies and people that prefer streaming.
That's what they said 5 years ago...

That being said, my switch can’t get above 50mbp. While 10 is recommend for online play, the switch still takes forever to download titles and so does the ps4. Meanwhile my Xbox one can download a 50gb game in 35mins. But the other two n my laptop take all day. So I don’t expect cloud gaming to be decent on the switch unless they are light titles.

If that was the only way to play a particular game I would choose to never play it.

Then don't play the switch cloud version and just let the people who want to play it there to do it ? You can enjoy your superior PC version since the existence or not of this game on the switch wouldn't have mattered for you anyway.

It's more that the principle of Capcom's actions regarding delivery of content to the Switch are shaping up to be rather disgusting. First making people download half of each Mega Man Collection when buying the physical versions and now this ridiculous nonsense.

The downclocked tegra x1 is truly showing it's power there :rofl2:
This may be less about the hardware and more about Capcom not putting in the effort to port the game, especially since it was suggested that Capcom requested Nintendo double up on Switch's RAM to 4GB for their RE Engine, which at the time (and now?) only had RE7 running on it.

Not saying the hardware is shit, but was mostly refering to this:

What's bad about the cloud version? Well, if you dont mind having horrible input delay, lag and disconnection problems, i guess you are fine...
