Physical PlayStation Vita games to stop being produced by March 2019

ncPSvita-01.jpg

Sony of America and Sony of Europe are looking to finally put the PlayStation Vita to rest. Both branches of the company have announced that all physical PlayStation Vita games will stop being made entirely by March of 2019. For developers still making games on the system, there's a time limit until June 28 of this year to request physical copies be printed. Digital games can and still will be released, but it's clear that Sony is trying to put the Vita firmly out to pasture, six years after its original launch in 2012.

I have 2 portable Vitas (OLED + LCD) and 2 PSTVs (equally hacked and on latest firmware) and I absolutely love them. It’s really sad that it was abandoned by Sony so soon. Having a 3DS as well I will never understand why the vita didnt receive the glory it clearly deserves - the games look gorgeous and psn works great, even crossplay/crosssave and remote play features....I still don‘t get it why it had come this way. Shame on Sony in that case.

its easy to see why.

1st- the price, it was preety damn high for a portable at a time, people complained the 3ds released one year prior was already too expensive for a portable at 250 thats why nintendo 6 months latter droped the price to 170$ and then vita came one year later at 300(basicaly almost double the price of 3ds), heck it costed more than preety much any other console at a time portable or not.

2-Memory cards, sony yet again instead of using regular micro or sd cards like nintendo did made up their own memory cards and they are more expensive than games, with little storage really and vita basicaly needing them since almost every game installs a huge chunk of it on internal memory, unlike 3ds wich is just updates and very rarely needs an install outside of the cartrige, you would end up paying over 80$ for a 32gb card its ridiculous i remenber 4gb cards were like 20$ and that could fit maybe 3 games if they didnt install much ...

3-Exclusive games are rare and very poor quality, seriouly if you can name 5 good exclsuive games that were released outside of japan you will be listing already crappy games, vita only had indie games and some ports here and there, there isnt a single game you go out and say i need to own a vita to play this game.

End of days.. I enjoyed my Vita but I don't have much interest in jrpgs or most indies. 's why I sold my Vita last year.

Just got back from Japan and I was amazed by the massive Vita sections some of the stores had (if you're lucky stores here might have a couple of download codes for sale). I don't see that ending anytime soon.

RIP

who cares? Vita is worth just by piracy and emulators.
I can imagine how useless it would be without RetroArch, but thanks to this, i've enjoyed so many psx games and below

The only game that made me interested to buy vita was persona 4 golden. Thanks goodness atlus released an anime so i didn't need to play the game to enjoy the new content. The rest of the library is not that interesting. I can emulate old games on my android devices or 3ds XL anyway

I hope that Sony will surprise us for the next Portable system with better 3rd party supporting. I would buy it for fully 3rd party supporting. :)
tbh i dont think sony will make another portable system, they just dont have the studios, and 3rd partys couldnt care less to port to the switch why would they care to port to a sony portable? any portable console cant run blurays so they either go fully digital wich will flop or go cartrige route wich will be more expensive.

problem with psvita is that they didnt had the studios to make enough games for it while nintendo could keep up making portable games and console games sony does not, since even ps4 is mantianed alive with 3rd partys, if you check how manny games sony themselves make a year you would be very surprised.

so yeah i dont see them going portable after the flop on the vita and we dont want their proprietary memory cards again... same crap with psp, serious imagine if the switch would only take proprietary mc it would be disastrous.

I'll never understand why Sony put out a system, then stopped supporting it almost immediately. "They stopped supporting it because sales never took off". Fuck outta here with that shit, you need to make GAMES TO PLAY for the system to take off!!! Sony didn't make hardly shit for the Vita as much as they could have!!!

yeah and the ones that were decent sony ported them to ps4 like gravity rush and tearway lol and the rest were ports that played better on ps3/ps4.

srs sony tough like the psp they would make a portable console and 3rd party's will make it go on, the psp had few 1st party titles too but 3rd partys always made a version of portable game for the console like they did for the DS, nowadays after the ds/psp era end 3rd partys no longer fell the need to make a worse portable version of their games thats the reason 3ds never got manny 3rd party titles nor the psp, dedicated portable ports are now preety much dead compared to gbc, gba,ds and psp days.Nintendo kept the 3ds alive by making games sony just didnt want to spent money or studious on the vita and that was the diference in the end.

I remember buying a used 16GB card for 35€ here.

As for your third point. Good exclusives *are* a thing, but meh. At least one of them was an exclusive until Sony decided to remaster it for a system they didn't consider dead.

This makes me sad. But I don't really have any reason to be sad about this... I owned one PS Vita cart and I shipped that off to a friend so he could enjoy Persona 4 Golden.
