I don't really care one way or another. For the most part, games I've pirated have been games I wouldn't buy anyway. Occasionally I've ended up pleasantly surprised and actually bought the game afterwards.

What i don't get about this argument though is that everyone releases on the PC and it is the most pirated platform by far yet you don't hear devs coming out complaing about it because every piece of software since the dawn of the pc has been cracked and dumped.

Well, PC isn't a closed system. It's also probably the most accessible. Devs know this and are therefore willing to make games for it because they know there are a lot of people they could reach. One of the implicit promises of a console is that it's basically a "closed" system, and the manufacturer wields a lot more control over what people can and can't do on it. It generally costs more for developers to make games on consoles for this reason. So if a console is blown open by piracy, and it seems to developers like everyone is just downloading games (regardless of whether that's actually true), it's more of a risk for them to develop for it.

There always will be p****y. Remember when rxTools came out, there were no sigpatches. You could do an emuNAND fine.
But then there was someone who created an rxTools with sigpatch which was possible to play backups.

OP, it will happen, and I think it's better to not talk about it. Let people do their own thing and keep for themselves.

Start an online petition man, I forget what they're called. But hey, hell if we get enough signatures maybe we could go down to congress and finally change something.

If you feel guilty then go back I buy all the games you pirated. That will make you feel better.

Image a world with good people, imagine us having CFW without any ability to load pirated games. Just us having everything else with the ability to mod our games, edit our saves and run homebrew with the sole exception of you having to purchase your own games.

Are you good enough of a person that you could wish for something like this? I know I am.
I said this in another thread and ill say it again. What about Wii u ports? If I paid $90 for Mario kart 8 and all the dlc early on, does it make me lazy to think I should be entitled to get the dx version on switch and not have to pay another 60 as punshiment for supporting it early rather than waiting a few years? I'm sick of this kind of thing, I just finished pirating the pc version of nioh because I bought the game and dlc day 1 on my ps4 and then they announced a new better version and said id have to buy it all over again to play this version as punishment for being an early supporter. Am I immoral for thinking that i deserve the better version of the game (which retails for 60 bucks) when i paid MORE THEN THAT for the game a few months earlier?

I would like no piracy for switch games, but assuming nes/snes/n64/gc emulators come out, i would want the ability to inject roms.
Gotta get that sweet Timesplitters 2 back.

Not every switch owner is going to know about CFW let alone this website for information. The concern for piracy is only speaking towards a small number of users compared to those who actually update
their systems consistently to have online support ect... I remember one of the devs who had the same agenda as the OP that worked on Loadline for the Wii U he tried with all his might to avoid DLC piracy during the early stages of its exploit.
But over time ppl found ways around it by revamping loadline to allow sharable DLC.

I dare anyone who is against piracy to come up with factual, empirical evidence (not made up crap, actual sources that can be cited) that states piracy has killed game and console sales. I'll be waiting. And no,
the Dreamcast doesn't count because that was Sega's own undoing.

To me its more about: if you like it, really like it, them buy it. Support the developper for doing things right. Support indie dev for the love they show to their games.
If you cant afford it thats another story. I also know that in some countries prices are insane. But to me i think its got more to do with ethics in general than anything else.

Imo there are morally sound reasons to pirate games. If you dont support a scummy company for moral reasons and dont want to fund the game, but still want to play it, then no one is harmed in pirating it rather than just not playing the game. Or as I said earlier I feel morally justified in pirating Nioh.

I think the problem with this post (and this is just my opinion) is the OP is stating what THEY want and ignoring what OTHERS might want. To be honest, I have very little desire to edit game saves, but it sounds like something that THEY would like. Also, modding games can lead to problems online.... this is what Mario Kart Wii was like online after people modded their game. Do you think that's fair to those people that are NOT into modding their games or don't know how? A kid that gets a Switch and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Splatoon 2 for Christmas and goes to play it isn't going to be happy when he goes online to get hit with blue shells non-stop or can't kill another player on Splatoon 2 because they have a modded game. Don't say it's not going to happen that way because it will. PS3 has CFW and people cheated on Call of Duty. Xbox 360 had cheaters as well. If you can mod a game offline, there isn't really much stopping you from modding it ONLINE. What if this same kid that got a Switch for Christmas was 10 years old and his parents couldn't afford to buy him games. Is it HIS fault that video games aren't in the family budget?
