Image a world with good people, imagine us having CFW without any ability to load pirated games. Just us having everything else with the ability to mod our games, edit our saves and run homebrew with the sole exception of you having to purchase your own games.

Are you good enough of a person that you could wish for something like this? I know I am.

Being a good person means not judging someone in the face for what they do, if they arent hurting no one or hurting you in anyway ;)

Again, piracy has never had a bad impact on game consoles, not a single bad impact. The ds sold millions, so did the ps2 and the wii, and those where the MOST pirated consoles of all time.

This is a loaded question. While I personally am not a fan of the morals of piracy, I still do it. I don't have the money to blow $60 every time I want a Switch game, because there are other things I need to spend my money on.

By claiming that you have to be a good person to reject piracy is very immature of you. You just don't have to pirate if it is that big of a deal to you. Or, maybe you don't want it because you know you will use the feature if it exists.

Also, installing homebrew as applications will definitely enable piracy, as they will be the same format. So unless you want extremely limited homebrew applications for the rest of the console's life time, then piracy is an undesirable side effect.

I'm not a fan of piracy but I sure did it with my 3DS. That said, I know that a perception of rampant piracy can make devs unwilling to make games for a console (as happened with the PSP). I won't entertain delusions of there being no piracy on the Switch--that's not going to happen. I'll certainly try to do it as little as possible. But there is value in piracy in the sense that it lets people try before they buy--that's what I intend to do. I'll buy games I enjoy as often as I can. Hopefully, the fact that piracy will definitely exist on the Switch will motivate Nintendo to improve their services when it comes to buying games. Give us refunds like on Steam! Maybe that's the message they'll receive.

no?

here's a super cool fact: most people who wait for a console to get hacked to play pirated games would never have bought games in the first place. there are also other reasons for pirating games even if it's not just for stealing. for example, I pirate games with shitty localizations (literally anything NiSA has touched, lol), censorship or if i just don't like a company.

and there are some people who are just dirt poor and can't afford to game, so they should just be miserable and bored, yeah? cause that's the right thing to do?

cut the holier than thou shit with piracy, enough is enough.

Nintendo, Sony, and especially Microsoft are openly anti-consumer dicks.

I may be evil, but they continue to stockpile insultingly large piles of money while I scrape by on a phone monkey job. Let me indulge in my vices.

I've bought a lot of indie games for the Switch, and the ability to pirate won't stop me buying more in the future.

When it comes to my Xbox One X and PS4 PRO I don't really care about pirating games for those consoles because most of the games usually goes on sale the very same year on respective stores and both consoles have great online services as well.

When it comes to Nintendo consoles I do really love their games but both the console and game prices stay consistent with no sign of games going on sales on the online shop, also Nintendos Online services are horrible when compared to Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo is even going to charge for it as well. I've already paid for Mario Kart, Odyssey and Zelda for the Switch and I will probably buy Smash as well and other first-party games but I don't see myself buying every game I wanna play for the Switch when they demand the prices they do for their games. I had the same philosophy when I had Wii also.

Also I would rather spend my money on other things then videogames so if I can save my money for more important things I will.

Technically speaking if someone doesn't have the means to buy legit copies then the developers aren't loosing out so why would they care? Take Brazil for example,Piracy seems to be wide spread because software is both expensive and the average joe would never be able to afford to play stuff so wouldn't the devs rather they enjoy their work where they would never otherwise have the chance too?

EDIT: Also i almost always buy my games used so the devs don't make any money from me :D

piracy is fine as long as it's inconvenient, it's basically the only way people in most of south america can play new video games.
most people in wealthier countries would rather spend $50 than risk breaking something or getting banned.
a problem only arises once it becomes too easy and mainstream that normal non people can do it easier than running to gamestop.

I care about the piracy in the first place. I'm the one who could affort the games, but would rather download them for free instead, so I can spend my money on things that I can't get for free.

*YAWN* .. Whilst I won't pirate, I don't see why its any of your business what anyone else does. These holier than thou posts are getting a little stale now.

Just because you CAN pirate doesn't mean you will. I dont have any pirate games on my PC and I just buy what I want. I have a job and disposable income but seriously posts like yours are so condescending.

perception of rampant piracy can make devs unwilling to make games for a console

It's all relative to what percentage of people who pirate had the intent to purchase before cfw.

We will never know the true figure but i'm willing to bet it's quite a small %.

What i don't get about this argument though is that everyone releases on the PC and it is the most pirated platform by far yet you don't hear devs coming out complaing about it because every piece of software since the dawn of the pc has been cracked and dumped.
