Yeah, So, the title says it all. I had to send my system in cause my dock nearly caught fire (not sure what happened, but yeah) So I sent it in and got it back today. They forced the 5.0.0 update without even telling me or asking or anything. So, just a heads up for those who want homebrew/cfw but need your system repaired.

They've been doing this since the Wii.

But did the Switch got screwed too or just the dock? If my dock breaks and the console not, I would never send the console to Nintendo, I know for a long time they update the system and sometimes they won't even backup the saves depending on what happens with the console...

If your dock breaks you only send in the dock. The dock won't magically update the console

This is probably a noob question from me but would it be actually possible for Nintendo to set the Switch to a lower Firmware? Or would it be impossible even for them? I know they would have no reason to do so.

Maybe the console also got melted or screwed... :) I wonder what happened, I hear tons of problems with it, but never seen a dock that almost catches fire LOL

They won't... I don't know is when a console is beyond repair if they always give you a new\refurbished console always on last FW, that I don't know, I only have\had one Nintendo console 3ds and never sent to repair it's still ok and now I have the Switch for a few days I'm still on 4th battery charge...

All I know is if it's repaired it will bring last FW specially if hacks appeared for a lower FW and they have patched...

I think I remember reading that refurbished systems, at least with the 3ds, don't always come with the latest firmware. this is refurbs from Nintendo themselves.

They can't without replacing the motherboard, and wouldn't do it even if they could

Because my switch was docked, they wanted it too. I regret telling them that.
Actually they might have a point, there might be something wrong with the console that's shorting out the dock

What firmware version are you on? Supposedly Fusee Gelee will work with all of them, some are just more convenient. Either way, though, make sure when you're talking with the support staff that they can guarantee that your saves won't be compromised

They won't ever guarantee you keep your saves, even if it's something that can almost certainly be fixed in a way that keeps your saves. They do it for liability reasons.

Here they tell that on the store... They told that to my friend, but he ended up asking for money back and bought PSVR...

His Brand new PS4 Pro also burned out in just a few months, Sony repaired it, it seems like they gave the same console they did some small scratches in it, it was still smelling like burn, but the HDD came clean with all data erased, no saves, no nothing too...

It is reasonable to update your console when you sent them in for "repair". Sure they update the firmware to block piracy, but it also (sometimes) fix bugs that cause the system malfunction. It makes zero sense not to update to a more "stable" firmware to prevent future problems in their point of view as a service provider. Using Homebrew isn't their concern and actually violate their ToS anyways.

This is because the system is updated and refurbished, then boxed and stored in a warehouse until sold. Sometimes that's a long wait and updates come and go while it sits.

With a service repair the system is updated, fixed, then immediately returned to the owner, not stored.
