I'm a bit worried about that.

FFXII was a bit boring to me. I struggled with 60 hours, but gave up after that. I found the hybrid system felt more like I had set up a macro bot or something, rather than actually engaging with what was happening. Ni No Kuni was pretty good, but it'd feel pretty weird in pokemon. I mean, we already have pokemon rumble, which is closer to Ni No Kuni.

I love tales of symphonia and kingdom hearts, but I want some variety in my games. Bravely default is awesome, for example. There's got to be a way to keep traditional RPG style fresh without being active.

I couldn't get behind Bravely Default. Though. If we are using recent Square games as possible comparisons, Octopaths' simple multi-hit mechanic paired with the weakness system was combat changing enough to make it fun and keep things different. Though their ATB system that someone mentioned earlier would be a fair change up.

what?

RBY VC release?
i meant remade, virtual console doesnt count since well its way worse than fire red and leafgreen by far.

And to anyone wanting pokemon DLC hell no, i prefer to get a new game every year than pay more than twice the price of the game in dlcs, i mean look at smash wiiu if you buy all dlc its like 80+$.

Srs people are addicted to dlc for some odd reason.., i dont like paying more than a full game price for 1/4 at best of new content i mean look at games this days, they give like 2 or 3 new things and in the end you paid almost full price for some mission and 2 or 3 characters...

I can understand the worry regarding DLC, but I HATE rehashes. I though Ultra SUMO was a fucking ridiculous idea. Same with B/W2. They were basically the same game with a turn in story. These sold full price when they were better off being toted as grand DLC. We're not asking for then to go crazy, but a Pokemon Switch intended to last five or so years with constant DLC nd content updates would fare better in a long lived ecosystem that Ninty is planning to support.

pokemon always released a third version you dont need to buy at all, also getting the same going for 5 years wouldnt work for pokemmon.

sure imagine that they make kanto and then they release johto, you would get all your pokemon that are high level locked away while playing through johto? that would be really stupid imo, pokemon is a agme that if you can use your post league pokemons from the start is the most boring thing ever since you kill everything with a single move, and locking away your pokemons during dlc would just be stupid, i rather prefer they release johto as a new game instead.

DLC are usualy stuff you get to continue your game , pokemon you cant continue your game to a new region becuase you are too overleveled. wich would make it seem a totaly diferent game on dlc rather than an expansion.

Okay, so I don't think we're on the same page here. Let me explain my idea:

So Ninty releases Pokemon with the idea of this being the only Pokemon they release. To keep the game fresh, they frequently release DLC and content updates. Think MMO style content progression. The original game drops for 60, every DLC that releases drops for around 20 bucks and adds new maps, mechanics/features and, of course, pokemans. It wouldn't be 5 years of the same game because it would constantly be updated with new stuff, and there would be no reason for a "second or third version" that isn't necssary.

By the way, the whole third version thing, that's false. If you wanted to have the best content and features, along with playing with your friends, you HAD to update. Same principle as what I'm posting, but we don't have the shitlong development cycle.

That's more like Game as Service. I'm thinking more MMORPG style. You buy the core game, beat it and play the post content. New DLC gets released, adds Johto or something, new pokemon and all that other stuff. AT this point, they have a few ways to keep progression going. They can make all the pokemon in the new DLC insanely high level for where they are (picture second evolution pokemon at level 60 and higher), or they can force you to restart with select pokemon (which I don't think anyone would like, case and point you). The first way, keeping all your pokemon, wouldnt' be much different from how it is with pokebank. You have access to all of your old pokemon at their original levels and have the choice of importing them or starting over. To be honest, it's all up to you anyways, so what would be the difference in this?

Again, see my point above. You've always have the choice of pulling in your old pokemon, so this is moot.

that would be worse than everything i ever heard, oh you want an mewtwo just buy the mewtwo dlc cave its 5 bucks, oh you want charizard here goes charizard for another 5 bucks with kanto first gym, heck with over 700 pokemons when you reached the year 5 to get all the pokemons you would need around 300$ lol at best, so not only it would make a pokemon game filled with microtransitions which everyone hates but in the end you would just get a game with people with more money had the best pokemons lol, becuase not everyone can afford or is willing into buying peices of maps to catch some number of pokemons ...

also pokemons go into lvl 100 so making pokemon higher level it would just cap at 100 and finding lvl 100 caterpies would be stupid and pulling the lvl cap everytime an expansion comes up would be bad.

Pokemon is not an mmo , while on mmos you can easily make an OP oponent even if you are on max lvl since he can have boosts here and there pokemons dont they have to be capturable after, so if they make a huge op pokemon for an expansion boss or something then it would unbalance all the game.

It's almost like you didn't read my post. Go figure. Alright, backup and pump your brakes, let me explain:

I clearly stated that no one wants microtransactions. It would literally be the end of the internet if Gamefreak/Ninty pull shit like "5 bucks for shiny whatever". I never said that. I explicitly stated DLC, and stated that we wouldn't want them to go crazy. Please don't mix that up. Secondly, I never said "pieces of the map", I said maps. As in full blown areas. If they were to space these out in proper increments, they could forgo having to rebuild an entire game from scratch and just use the existing technology (hello, it's 2018, downloads and high capacity storage cards are common place) to increase the amount of content fairly and in a proper manner.

First, I don't see what's wrong with increasing the level cap for Pokemon. It's not out of the realm of possiblity. A level 120 caterpie would be fucking hilarious, but I said it was only one of the many ways they could do it. Jesus man, you're ignoring my posts, I've already gone over this and I don't feel like explaining again. lol

EDIT: Let me rephrase my question; what in the world are you going on about? No one said anything about TURNING Pokemon into an MMORPG. I was just referring to the content release system that MMORPGs use such as Expansions and DLC. I never said anything about boss pokemon or anything of the sort. By the way, SUMO basically had this already. Don't remember pokemon with the weird aura around them that were basically bigger pokemon? Yeah.
By the way, you sound like you've never heard of PokeMMO. Basically singleplayer pokemon with multiplayer elements, but it's not broken or unbalanced. I suggest you go give it a look see since you seem so opposed to the suggestion, even when it's not being suggested.

151 first pokemon, Kanto, turn based battle, no megaevolutions z-moves and all that new crap

Just make Pokemon Red & Blue 2

i liked mega evolutions, z moves on the other hand could be scrapped for sure :S

Z-moves were cringy as all hell. Yeah, I know, it's catering to the younger audience. But god damn, that alone made me turn away from SUMO a few times. lmao
problem is gamefreak doesnt scrap stuff in pokemon so im guessing we will have to deal with them for a very long time :S

I've put a lot of thought into this kind of DLC expansion framework. The best thing I could come up with is that you start in a region exclusive to the Switch, this is for training and tutorial purposes. Then, DLC drops in the form of entire regions and new Pokémon. When you move to that region you have the option of free play or taking the local Pokémon League challenge. If you decide to take the challenge, you are only allowed to use Pokémon caught or hatched in that region. This allows the levels to reset in that area (this keeps the level cap at 100 which is important because moves and evolutions are heavily based on the level) while preventing you from steamrolling the story/league with OP Pokémon. Once you beat the E4 and become champion, the restriction is removed. The Pokémon that you're not allowed to use are stored in your bank and can still be accessed from Day Cares for breeding purposes or for trading. If you are traded an 'out of region' Pokémon, it goes straight to your bank. You can always take a break from your league challenge and return to a previous region and have access to all your Pokémon. So if you don't like a particular region or DLC, you can just stop playing it and move to a different one. Thoughts?
