I talk about it if it's true. There was a supposed leak about the Gen 8 starters that turned out to be fake, rather jump into shitting or praising the designs, I said nothing. As it proved to be fake, I felt satisfied that I didn't waste my time on that. It's similar here, why talk about something that likely won't happen? Unless it's a total fantasy discussion but the discussion is as if it could come to fruition, which I don't believe

So because you don't like speculating or speaking on rumours, no one else should be able to? That argument is as played out as mine is. If you don't wanna jump into the pool, then don't. But don't call us out because we don't mind getting a little wet.

As long as it's not another f****** kingdom hearts clone, like all the strategic RPGs are moving to. I mean, I adore kingdom hearts, and I don't mind change, but do something better than just "now things just happen without you thinking about it! MASH BUTTONS! HAVE FUN!". I like my traditional RPG with strategy and planning. not *everything* has to be button mashing, on-the-fly, thinking. That's boring to me. They won't have a battle community like they do now if they change genres like some people are thinking X'D

Personally, I'm expecting a fully 3d remake of the first game, with new battle mechanics or style of battle, but sticking to the same turn-based genre. Well, that's more of a hope.

Like I mentioned earlier, I don't think they're gonna scrap the turn-based system completely. They're more likely to create a realtime hybrid, maybe something along the lines of FFXII, or Ni No Kuni where it's real-time, but still has turn-based mechanics involved. Another game it might be similar to is Wild Arms for the PS2. That system was pretty indepth without losing focus on it's primary system.

With another direct, comes another batch of rumors. Since the day Gamefreak left out the Battle Frontier from ORAS because "smartphones", I've lost most of any interest I had for the series. A reboot doesn't even mean a genre shift, anyways. Regardless of if it's real or not, there's no way Nintendo would drastically change the formula from turn-based.

I'm not calling anyone out, I shared my own take on the matter and intended to stay away from the conversation afterward. Cool your jets. I have just one more business to tend to in this thread...

Masuda claimed they left out Battle Frontier because basically it would've been too challenging, and only a "small" audience would appreciate it. See here.

Real Time fights please! with skill cooldowns or something. No more turn-based combat that involves just OHKOs, its starting to get a bit old...

I'd be happy with a hybrid combat system. Real-time (but somewhat slow) with basic attacks, blocks, grabs, and counters that do low amounts of damage, and turn timers with move callouts from the trainers for greater damage. The move callouts and turn-based portion of it would work exactly the same as current. This again seems to be what the rumor mills iz suggesting. I'm not banking on it, but I think most people would really enjoy that. The combat would be more like the anime(s). Origins was dope af IMO.

So... Pokken?
Negative, Pokken is a straight-up fighting game, it doesn't have turn timers for move callouts, only assist Pokemon.

i wish the new pokemon game would be generation 1 or 2 pokemon game with all the same elements but...

instead of turn based rpg it would be real time fighting. every pokemon you encounter you need to battle it in tekken style. of course the amount of damage you made depends on your pokemon level. in other words fighting game with story and rpg elements.

I'm a bit worried about that.

FFXII was a bit boring to me. I struggled with 60 hours, but gave up after that. I found the hybrid system felt more like I had set up a macro bot or something, rather than actually engaging with what was happening. Ni No Kuni was pretty good, but it'd feel pretty weird in pokemon. I mean, we already have pokemon rumble, which is closer to Ni No Kuni.

I love tales of symphonia and kingdom hearts, but I want some variety in my games. Bravely default is awesome, for example. There's got to be a way to keep traditional RPG style fresh without being active.

They'd have to design it so small kids could play it too, though, so I wonder how much depth we'd lose from the change. I wonder if they'd simplify the move pool or something. Or are they going to make it more like pokemon go XD

Oh god, I hope they don't try and make it more like pokemon go.

I'd be fine with them adopting the Final Fantasy ATB system. Attacks like Quick Attack could just be available before the other attacks, maybe every attack could have it's own speed value on top of the Pokemon's speed stat or something.

An action RPG system would seem a bit out there with 150+ unique characters and god only knows how many moves, but I guess if anyone could do it it's Game Freak.

I know there are a lot of purists out there, but if Pokemon Battle Revolution taught me anything it's that the current system is a bit too boring to be the main focus of a home console game.

busy and young people have various means of entertainment. Using smartphones and other devices they can access a great number of games, so the time they dedicate to a single game is less than in the past.
Yeah. Which is the most obnoxious and lame excuse of a reason I've heard for not including a feature in a long while. Even Black/White 2, which weren't that long ago, during the time of ORAS's release still had an insanely content-filled postgame. They're cutting out the best parts of their game and making it more linear because they're afraid people can't work out that fire is weak to water anymore. If you're cutting content and trying to pass it off as better for the consumer, that's ridiculous.

I agree, when I picked it up again recently and actually started paying attention to how Gambits are used it felt like I was just walking to battles while they play themselves out. The decision making is still there but it made me wonder what I was doing with my life since I could pretty much get the same experience watching a let's play.

Nothing like Go. The move pool will probably be simplified if they're going back to Kanto, though. Four buttons for basic attacks, four buttons for turn-based menu navigation, triggers left open for quick slots, sticks are move/move camera.

Even so that doesn't directly tie into the challenging/demanding excuse, so Frontier wasn't left out because of "smartphones." I agree leaving it out removed the best postgame I could ever ask for, but I wanted to make sure the facts are straight. GameFreak can be accused of being patronizing basically.

its time to go back to kanto its the only gen of pokemon you cant play using the 3ds since their last game was on gba :P

all other gems got a remake or working on the 3ds since it reads ds carts too.

So only now is kanto the only game umplayable using the 3ds.

This is typically the kind of game that would work well as a game as a service.

Reboot the concept, make the core game with really solid mechanics, maybe abandon turn by turn cause it's a bit old, and release 1 generation / y as a pack along with a new map.

There is no need to release an old concept and rebrand it as new constantly, just improve the game over time till there's real reason to rework it from scratch (pokemon VR if VR ever becomes mainstream for example)

(and quite honestly, gen 1 was the best anyway...)
