Hi,

I figured you all would be knowledgeable. I was hoping to make Back Ups of my Amiibos for traveling. After a lot of research (like 18 hours), I couldn't find any cheap alternatives to making them. People keep recommending an android phone. I've searched everywhere for a phone that fits the requirements to make Amiibos, but I haven't found one in my price range.

So my question is: where can I buy a cheap NFC android phone that would work with making amiibos? My price range is under 35$. If you could post a link where I can get one, I'd be so grateful. The screen (as long as it is still functional) can be cracked. As long as the NFC functionality works and I can access the web, I'm good to buy it.

If that is a little unrealistic for a phone with NFC, totally link me a phone that works thats cheap. I'm dirt poor, so this will help me a lot. All the research I did, lead me to non-compatible phones.

Thank you so much in advance.

Got a hacked n3DS? They can be used to make Amiibo NTAG215s now.
Other than that, there's this which fits within your budget: https://gbatemp.net/threads/tools-amiibomb.467990/

Try Walmart

Both the LG Phoenix 2 and Samsung Galaxy Express Prime are on clearance for $20-30

I picked up the lg Phoenix 2 for $25 and works great for tagmo and ldtageditor

I have a question given the fact that the 3DS can do that.

Would the Pro Controller/JoyCon be able to do the same with some software?

EDIT: Now that i think about it, the Pro Controller can be connected via USB now, would that help?

Technically they can. In fact, registered Switch developers have access to an application that allows them to write Amiibo data to blank tags using attached Joy-Con. Not sure if it also works with Pro Controllers though. Understandably, this app is only available to developers using EDEV/SDEV units :(

But the fact that this app exists proves that the hardware is capable of generating Amiibo, so when homebrew becomes available this can be an option in the future.

As for connecting Joy-Cons or Pro Controllers to a PC, I'm not sure if it's possible to write an Amiibo app that way. There would need to be a driver in order to access the NFC reader/writer plus the Amiibo key to authenticate the generated Amiibo.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
