So lately I've been thinking why doesn't Nintendo include orientation lock in one of the system updates? This will alleviate the problem wanting to play while the system is charging and not being able to. I'm thinking it could be turning the orientation lock off, flipping the console upside down and bada boom bada bang! Playing while charging.

HOWEVER, this wouldn't work.

1. The switch wouldn't been able to have this. The vent for cooling is on top of the system. 2. You would have to lean it against something to play it because the stand would be upside down.

What is everyone's thoughts on this? I feel like Nintendo kind of missed out on an opportunity by placing the charging port on the bottom of the console.

Note : As common curtesy, I would like to ask for this thread to stay on topic and for everyone to respect each other's opinions. I love my switch and have put about a 150 hours into it. ( I would have put more, but I do have work and university, so we all know those feels)

Switch isn't able to rotate screens though. It's missing one feature allowing for it which is a hardware one.
I wanted charging port just like one for Wii U Gamepad, so i could play and not screw up wiring in my cable by mistake because i keep smashing it or accidentally unplugging. It's also uncomfortable as hell. But that's just my few cents.

A design oversight, or maybe they just realised it was the only way to do it since the joycons have to go to the side.

Now, I'm personally hoping that with a gameboy emulator or something, we'll hold our switches on their sides like an oversized gameboy XD

That's why I posted this honestly. It keeps getting unplugged when trying to play and it's extremely annoying. I thought it over and decided to see others opinions on this topic because that charger port location is frustrating at times

That would really cool actually sense the switch is touch screen the joycons wouldn't even need to be attatched!

Yeah. I kinda understand this placement for phones, but not for a tablet. Never saw a tablet have a charging port on the bottom, Nintendo is special I guess?
But If you plan to play while lying down on your bed, grab PlayStand by Hori.

Yeah but potrait mode wouldn't be still available. Which can be easily explained why.
well I'm sure they will do portraite again for ds vc if they do bring ds vc to switch, they had portrait mode for a screen configuration with them

But it should be restricted only to DS VC. Menu and games aren't programmed to be viewed in potrait mode so they will just crash whole switch.

i preefer this way.
fuck with vertical screens and videos.

anyway, what about a mini dock? a bar that sticks to the bottom, that functions both as stand and "L" shape port? something that physically kinda looks like the wii sensor bar
since the nintendo switch stand is well.. not that great

You don't NEED an accelerometer for screen orientation. Doing it via software isn't impossible, nor should it be that hard. It's just not practical given the design.
maybe for something like mobious final fantsay :3 pls square

You know, I got a decent idea for a portable dock. It would look a little like a mini tripod, but when you unfold it you set it on one side (so the point is touchign the table). the Switch sits on top of one leg (so the leg runs across the bottom surface of the switch), a second leg supports the back of the switch, and a third leg keeps it from toppling over.

Can also be accomplished with something vaguely Z-shaped.

There would be no problem if they'd just include another USB-C port on the top of the console. That way, you can plug it into the dock from bottom, or plug the charger in from the top.
