So my friend was running a pretty old system firmware (luma + a9lh). Today he updated it to the newest firmware (11.4). Post updating it, it would turn on and immediately turn off. I know the solution was to update the luma build but he didn't. He freaked out and googled how to enter recovery mode and well you guessed it , updated the system in recovery mode causing a9lh to be removed.

On the bright side, he still has a nand back I made for him a while ago.

My question is, is there any way to Restore this nand backup via software on 11.4 ?

He is not comfortable with hard modding it unfortunately.

Actually, try making sure the SD card is inserted properly first. If A9LH can't find a valid payload, it will auto-shutdown.

So to clarify, by entering recovery mode and updating the 3ds, a9lh has been removed.
I have verified this as the 3ds is able to boot without an SD card.

So my question is, is there any way (other than hard mod) to restore a NAND backup on 11.4 ?

You can use DSiWare hax, if you have anther console with CFW that can transfer to the other one.
Before rushing to judgement, hold Select on boot (hold before pressing power) and make sure you really don't have a9lh or b9s.

I already tried that. :) Didn't work. A9lh is definitely gone...

Yes, dsiwarehax or hardmod. Or you wait till magnethax comes out.
magnethax is the only viable option I guess. I know this has been asked a lot but any ETA of magnethax ?

If it shuts down doesn't it have B9S installed? have you tried to boot Luma's "boot.firm"?
It doesn't shut down. That is the indicator that A9LH has been removed.

No ETA for MagnetHax, as it should be... we must let them work untill they see fit to make a release... asking for an ETA is not polite. (No offence meant).
