"Free" (Ads) Retro Sega Games on Mobile from Sega Forever

j9AyfHg.png

Sega has announced their brand new "free" (read: ad-filled) "service" Sega Forever, which offers classic Sega games on Android and iOS. Sega Forever will launch tomorrow (the 6/22) with some classic titles like Altered Beast, Sonic The Hedgehog, Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, and Phantasy Star 2, but also promises games from every Sega console including the SG-1000, Master System, Genesis, and even the Saturn and the Dreamcast. SG-1000 through Genesis games are supposedly going to be emulated, but Saturn and Dreamcast games will be full mobile "ports", meaning we'll finally get some proper Saturn gaming on Android!

Each game also comes with "up-to-date" fetures, like cloud saves, touch controls and leaderboards, and Sega promises to add new games "Every two weeks". If you don't like ads, you can optionally get rid of them for a measily $2 in-app purchase, or you can just deal with the ads and enjoy some free Sega games.

This is definitely some interesting news, the fact that Saturn and Dreamcast games may finally be easily playable on mobile devices without having to resort to emulation is pretty great news, and while touch controls are awful in most cases, the fact that these games will feature controller support means we'll have a great way to play those hard-to-emulate games on the go...as long as Sega ports the right ones (Panzer Dragoon series plx).

Hmph, I would rather pay a one time fee to play the games, then having ads. I have adblock on my phone so it's not going to be a big problem. I hear it's a fee per game? That sucks. I hope they have the good games, was never a fan of Sega but if they have CD or Castle of Illusion maybe i'll bite.

Welp now i regret buying the sonic 1 app... but hey i would pay to get rid of ads as long as i paly this on a tablet

I don't, since I paid with the money I already spent on keeping my phone line alive instead of using a credit card. But it's worth the riddance of (Non-Sega) ads.

& Knuckes of course!!!

Supposedly bluetooth controller support is added with each game as well

And I tested it with the 8bitdo NES30Pro and works like A CHARM!!!! I wish they get rid of the annoying touchthingies when using it though.

Tell me how good it runs on android? Cause last I checked they stopped updating android port that it was removed from google play.

Like a hot knife on butter: SMOOOOTH AND DELICIOUS!!!!

Nah there is already sega emulator for android.

So yeah........ don't want it.
Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic CD by Christian Whitehead are infinitely superior to their original counterparts and it's still a mystery why they've not been released on PC/Consoles yet. Well, Sonic CD has but not Sonic 1 & 2.

I'm guessing Sonic Mania has killed any possibility of Sonic 3 by CW on Android/iOS.

If this and that hacking stuff the other month shows Sega's willingness to experiment with all this then I am sure we will be seeing bundle deals and some kind of library service before long. I just hope Sony's awful patents don't stifle challenge modes and the like ( http://gbatemp.net/threads/new-sony...ntegration-into-all-non-trophy-titles.344991/ http://gbatemp.net/threads/sony-patents-adding-dlc-to-emulated-games.360179/ ).

Edit. Forgot to say "ew sonic adventure, those that like it are bad people and should feel bad".

This sounds amazing. Nintendo would be smart to offer VC titles like this for mobile.
Nintendo games will never be available on non-Nintendo platforms!

Several years after.. Mario, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, and more to come now on Android and iOS. :P

This will actually be really profitable for Sega. Since it's free-to-play, nobody will feel the risk of buying any apps and Sega will profit from ads. If someone doesn't like the ads, they will give $2 to Sega, a profit for Sega both ways. Genius.
--
Also, if anyone wants this but doesnt want ads and doesn't want to pay, there are some good legal adblockers out there, specifically--
iOS- WeBlock -- it's $2 i think but worth it, because $2 for no ads on ALL games. Download-- https://is.gd/weblockios (links to app store)
Android- DNS66, free, but it's made as an apk, download here--- https://f-droid.org/app/org.jak_linux.dns66
---
Of course, if you really like sega, give them a few bucks of your money.
