That's kind of how I feel about it. Without the whole H.P. Lovecraft feel, it wouldn't feel right...

The game messed up Lovecraft lore really bad.
Lovecraft mythos is the basis of all high fantasy, which specify a hierarchy with different levels of gods and monsters, and all that. In this hierarchy, though Culthulu appears god like, it, along with the great old ones, are as much worthless as us in face of greater beings. Sadly most works afterward does not go deep cause at if you go deep into Lovecraft you will realize even metaphysics "is an illusion".
