You think sites like twitter, facebook, etc. runs some kind of screening on people that sign up?

Jesus christ, this has nothing to do with mods doing their job right, it's not their job to screen if users made any offense, it's their job they post by the rules of the forum.

I love how this entire thing turned into a paranoia fest.
What the guy did is a horrible thing and he deserved what he got because of it, but the backlash and paranoia in this thread is just plain dumb.

What's done is done, but saying this place needs better mods to basically screen everyone is ridiculous.
Uninstalling a legit piece of working software that has nothing to do with what he did is ridiculous.

From what I did read, what was known months ago is that he already did his time(?) and got released, so that's not much of a reason to ban someone.
If anything, it should be authorities that should've been monitoring him so he would've gotten caught asap. I don't know if that happened, but either way he got caught again and now faces the consequences.

and as a sidenote/disclaimer for anyone with a tinfoil hat; no i am not defending him for what he did, I am just saying that the paranoia here is real.

Both deserve punishment but why is it sometimes the same? One is clearly worse than the other.

I think if you punish the consumers then the producers have less incentive to create it. A bit like buying and selling rhino horns and tiger skins is illegal, so less people buying means it is less lucrative to kill the animals. It is easier to punish the consumers than catch the producers.
