I'm pretty certain you can only play GBA games through emulation on a DSi and I doubt it would work very well. If you want proper GBA support you're better off using a DS Lite or original DS

I have it playing ds games and every thing fine for my 5 year old daughter on her dsi. but I can not get it to play gba. and id realy like for her to play Mario 1 and 3 and super Mario world etc with out having to go multi sytem I am currently using this http://www.3ds-blog.com/multikernel-for-gwmt-blue-card-mk01-
You can prolly try and boot homebrew on it then grab up an emulator. That's the best I got for dsi tho, sorry. And even then, Ds/dsi proccesors aren't all that great. Even on 3ds, GBA emulation isn't perfect

Not going to happen. The blue card doesn't offer the extra proccessing power you need to do this in Ds mode. If you had an appropriate hack to gain access to the extra power of the dsi that would do it but running the emu from the blue gw card won't do the job....

your best options.
gba on dsi can only be achieved through emulation, which is not that great... cuz ds\dsi is not that powerfull
if you really want, i suggest you, get a N3ds or even a 2ds for your kid, hack it and you can use virtual console or 3ds homebrew...
ho and almost forgot, you can also get a PSP, hack it and play gba on it, it's a great console for emulators
other option is getting a ds lite or a gba and a slot 2 (gba) flashcart which is kinda expensive, but has the best results since you play them nativaly

you can as well play on a phone, computer or tablet through emulation again,
you can also get a raspberry pi, (it's a cheap computer in a card size) and if you and your kid likes to tinker with electronics and build stuff, you can make a box to the raspberry pi and turn it into a emulation machine, you can even make the controllers or something.. it's a cool project to create bounds with your son\daughter if you both like to build stuff with legos, use screw driver on toys to experiment and try stuff around.. raspberry pi is cool for that

this is her first handheld. so we are seeing how she does with taking its something weave had put to the side for her for quit some time now . super Mario all stars with super mario world snes works pretty well other then the sound is slightly choppy.so that games takes care of most of the gba games but the gba option is there. it just crashes

Look into getting an R4. It's how I used to play GBA games on my DS. As others have said, this will run an emulator using the CPU/GPU chip on the card itself. It isn't perfect but should play the majority of games fine, Mario won't cause any issues.

so the $15 r4golds2017 from the wish app?website will work? isent the blue gateway card a r4? i planed on buying one soon anyways. but now i see ds from sd is getting pretty good. on the 3ds.

Well on a 3ds there's vc injection. That yields games at full speed because it uses the 3ds native hardware, like a compatibility mode.
this might help me switch from gba on my vita to my 3ds or at least just loz. but at this time my 5 year old only has a ds

It seems you need a EZFlash Vi due to the fact you have a DSI. There are videos of it on YouTube and you can also have a read about it if you do a search for it on google. But you need to be under system software 1.4.3 I think it says, there may be a method to downgrade (sorry, I don't have more time to read up about it). The Gateway blue card isn't an R4 no, it's strictly to enable the playback of unsigned NDS roms using the hardware itself, that is all. R4 and similar flashcarts have an independent cpu/gpu built into them that they use for the emulation of GBA etc.. probably running off some sort of linux kernel. The EZFlash Vi seems to say it works very well for gba games and also nds games too. So I would start there and if you have any questions about it, I'd recommend sending the online store a question or even the manufacturer - it's what I've done before.

Is that on a DSI though ? I have been reading that the DSI processor isn't as powerful as the other DS versions, maybe it was a scaled back version. If so, and the GBA rom support is good, then he could consider your option if you want to point him in the right direction.
