I would like to use a USB drive powered by a Y cable on the back USB ports for backing up my retail Wii U games. I would also like to use a USB stick in a front USB port for vWii games. Are there any issues I should be aware of? Can I leave these both plugged in at all times?

Yes. Search ustealth. You need to hide vwii drive from wiiu or else it will nag you to format it.

You cant, no. Not yet. Might be possible in future, but as of now, no.
