Depends on what you want. I found some indies like "Stick it to the man" to be awesome.

Lego Batman 2 is really good, and makes effective use of the gamepad for maps. I'm still working on the other lego titles, but avoid lego movie and the hobbit.

Lego City: Undercover
Open-world game, similar to the Grand Theft Auto series in some ways. Main difference is that you enforce the law, not break it. It has some pretty bad loading times and the humour isn't for everybody, it's obvious and cheesy. But, it reminded me of movies like Naked Gun and I liked it to be honest, the voice actors deliver everything well. Tons to do and it can be picked up real cheap these days.

The Wonderful 101
Perhaps one of the most unique games on the Wii U. I guess it's an action/beat-em-up? Some people really hate it, common complaints are difficulty and how forming the weapons by drawing the shapes on the gamepad screen is tricky. Like most games from Platinum it simply doesn't hold your hand and that makes it all the more satisfying when everything clicks and you start pulling off combos/getting good ranks etc.

Affordable Space Adventures

Stealth/Puzzle/Co-Op? This game uses the gamepad fantastically as you control the spaceship via the pad. You really have to play it to understand how well the developers have implemented usage. Playing the game single player or co-op gives completely different experiences too. Always seems to be on sale on the eShop too.

Shantae & The Pirates Curse
Lots of 'indie' 2D Platformers get hyped to pieces and this was one that lived up to that hype for me. It's tricky in places, without being too frustrating and the way the game progresses with power-ups and such is handled well. Silly story with some really fun characters, looking forward to the next game in series which is out in November.

Puyo Puyo Tetris
It's Japanese-only... it's crazy-addictive though. Sunk hours into this. It's weird Sonic Team have nailed the formula for this and well, not Sonic games. If you can handle not understanding the ridiculous story in 'story-mode' it's very much playable with no knowledge of Japanese. It's "out-there" but it's also a real cheap import and with the likes of OurLoader/DDD a good addition to a Wii U collection imo.

Others...
Steamworld Dig
Armillo
Kick and Fennick
Bayo 1/2 (Not sure if they are hidden gems but, they sold like shit... and Bayo 2 was one of the main reasons I got a Wii U.. it's glorious)
Freedom Planet
Electronic Super Joy

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
I have been playing this game and I will be playing through it and I really would not recommend it. I would recommend Hyperdimension Neptunia (the first one on PS3) over this game overall. This is a very weird mishsmash of very good production values and very mediocre game inside it. Side stories are formulaic and boring to play, you follow them if you care about the characters which is whatever.

The worst thing by far is savage enemy encounters. This is so badly thought and tested mechanic that has cost me from fifteen to hour of progress just because they can spawn randomly in front of you, you are UNABLE to stun them or get away from them way too often, and then you are making RNG war to escape the battle, and way too many times three escape attempts in row fail and end up in game over and realization I just lost up to hour of progress. This shit is not fun, not funny, not good at all. What's worse is even if you were scourging low level area, like even the first area of the game for a side story, the savage enemies actually scale with player level and can come in and destroy you out of nowhere even in a lvl 8 zone. I got one game over and tons of progress lost when first time I expected the savage enemy to be savage for the zone's level, and got fucked over. Subsequently I've been fucked over with surprise savage in sidequest and three failed escapes in row. Way too many times.

Overall gameplay is bare and not that exciting. If anything the gamepad functionality and all make me hope this console had actually good turn based RPG by atlus that had used similar features.

Only reason I am finishing this game is because it is so stupid it is entertaining, and that is a taste bud most people should not have. When playing through shit you already played through happens for the fifteenth time because savage enemy encounters are a shitty bad mechanic, your opinion on this game turns to the very grim.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions if anything, is not good, not hidden nor a gem. Only reason I do not call it bad is because I can laugh at it, but not with it.

Why not both?
- You go somewhere where there's no internet and your only option is playing physical media.
- Digital media eventually becomes inaccessible legally so you have to pirate it.
- Digital format doesn't give the feeling that you actually own it.
