Almost half a year now, since the initial release of fw 5.5.1.

Looking at the speed Nintendo usually fixes exploits with a "stability update", might it be possible that 5.5.1 is already the finale firmware?

Is it just me, or do people always assume that a firmware that doesn't get an update after 1-2 months is the "final" update?

Looks like that yeah.

They will protect their property/revenue till they see fit by releasing further updates to to try and counter piracy, as lets face it we all know what "further system stability" does.

Just because its been quiet on the WiiU updates, doesn't mean they have dropped firmware updates

Nintendo still makes royalties from games they had in the 80s and 90s, why would you not think that they would not try to protect their current means of cashflow?

There will always be updates rolled out because Ninti never know when one is needed. The wii stoppd at FW4.3 only because there was no point in releasing anything with stability or stopping any holes in there firmware, it was destroyed and no point but the wiiu has not come to an end yet, remember we still have Zelda & Paper Mario to come and I'm sure Ninti will put a stop to the exploit in the next update and then they will carry on. Updates will always happen until Nintendo says no more, no point!

I'm on a 5.5.1 Basic WiiU and almost 10 day's already there is a System Update waiting to be downloaded, of course this can not be downloaded because of blocked dns and blocked internetaccess on router. So if a higer level system version does not exists, what's the update, a hotfixed anti-exploit 5.5.1 version?

please, read the FAQ, IT'S NORMAL THAT THERE IS A BLOCKED UPDATE! CAUSE THE WII U CAN NOT CONNECT TO NINTENDO SERERS TO CHECK IF THERE ACTUALLY IS AN UPDATE!

And if they are smart, they will make Zelda and other new games incompatible with older FW even when spoofed.
Zelda will undoubtedly be a dual-release (WiiU & NX). Most will want to play it on NX, anyway. For the WiiU, a workaround will be found, if your suggestion becomes reality.

For the old Wii, at some point they stopped releasing firmware updates, and there were still new games coming out. They didn't even create a new version with all "security gaps" fixed when they used it for the vWii.
