Today Sony has confirmed they will stop selling the Playstation TV.

On the Japanese website a message can be found that the company stopped manufacturing the console. In Europe and the USA the Vita already got discontinued at the end of 2015. A spokesmen of Sony Netherlands has confirmed this fact. The console cannot be found anymore on the Dutch Sony website.

Chances are slim a followup will appear. A statement send to Tweakers says 'The target of the PS TV has been reached'. And now Sony will now target the Playstation 4 and PS Vita.

Well that was pretty short-lived... In my opinion I'd say that the TV was worse than the Vita to be honest!

For a number of reasons! One being the compatability with Vita games themselves... iirc, I think I only had one game out of my collection of Vita stuff that actually worked with my PSTV and that was Minecraft. All the rest of my games kept getting the incompatability error, even with the whitelist hack...
Another reason for the faliure of the TV is the lack of hardware. There's not even a way to plug in a USB cable from the PSTV to a PC so I can transfer my content without running into any update nags! (I'm running on a low firmware because I have TN-V, ARK etc. installed on it)

So to sum up, good riddance TV.. You may have been half the price of the Vita, but it's certainly a disappointment to also have half the functionality of the Vita. :(

Err, a few things wrong in this news story. It was discontinued in Japan, yeah, but just Japan. I included an English source

This, for one, I assume is a typo, but is even wrong if you meant PS TV, because it wasn't discontinued in the US or EU.
The console is not being sold anymore at the online Sony store.

B) That's a weird thing to say, since Sony never sold their consoles their selves anyways, they just redirect you to Amazon or Gamestop or whatever.

As for the actual news of it being discontinued in Japan, meh. I can't imagine it had much of a target audience there regardless, since Japan is all about handhelds and not home consoles.

My bad, I wrote this article in like 5 minutes or so.(I rougly translated it) Anyways, maybe it was sold online in Europe? I have no clue to be honest.

We saw prices drop like a stone in the Netherlands the other month, hopefully I will be able to pick one up for "get it off my shelves" money at some point as I reckon I could have some fun with one.

did anyone actually even buy one?
It's a great way for people to play Vita games if they don't care about portability, and it costs 1/5th the price of a Vita or less (unlike the "half the price" figure Voxel mentioned). I imagine a lot of people are like me and only buy handheld consoles for the exclusives, so why wouldn't someone who doesn't have a Vita yet buy a PSTV? Sure, you may say "but it haz no gaems, it's not worth it" but $20 is extremely cheap for a current "console."

I personally think the Vita TV should've been an addon accessory for the PS3/4 instead of a whole new mini system. Then again, some Vita games seem to be given the remake treatment for the consoles.

Most people assume the PSTV to be "PS4 Remote Play" box and that's it. They're not even aware that once it's hacked it can play PSP, PS1 and retro emulators.

PS4 mirror and PSX box with tranferrable games in the memory card between pstv and Vita is a fantastic feature. Sadly it's not even marketed much. Easiest way to really enjoy games on the go and then pop the card into the pstv and continue to play on a big screen. Easily worth the 29€ I paid for it new :)

PSP 2000 on up have tv out so i have no idea why the ps vita has no tv out. Hopefully there will be a tv out mod someday that will happen. PSTV wouldnt even exist if the ps vita just had that feature.

The biggest issue is with PSTV was pretty much the lack of Vita game compatibility. There's ton of Vita games that COULD be played with just a controller without any touchscreen or other crap, but still those games can't be launch with PSTV. Plus, they used that as marketing scheme.

One good example is Soul Sacrifice. The original Japanese version got the patch to allow the game run in PSTV, but that patch didn't released in western version. They was like "Wanna play Soul Sacrifice in big screen? Then try Soul Sacrifice Delta. You have only original version? Just buy the new one!". I think there was some other games, too, where JPN release got their PSTV patch, but western release didn't.

Hell, there was even built-in emulator for controller to use front/back touchscreens stuff, so why they didn't let people to use them? I don't know and I bet that even Sony doesn't know about that, either.

Other than that, I don't regret spending 9e to get one of these. At least it was good to play some indie/ps1/psp/some vita games at go and then continue them from TV when I'm home. It would be even better with some haxors/emulators, but I'm using my legit games from PSN on it, and I'm too lazy for hax stuff, anyway.

You can install the whitelist patch and play the vita games that sony didn't give access to with the PSTV.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
