ironfall doesnt boot because the payload is to 10.1 and now, your 3ds is on other fw.Gotcha, Now it boots fine
New problem: IronFall doesn't boot, it gets stuck in the "Nintendo 3DS" screen
I gave it several tries, sadly it doesn't work XD
It did install ninjhax but only black screens when loading the homebrew. Welp, I gave it a go.
Must find other ways then...
Update:
After the attempt to run Cubic Ninja US on EU 3ds, I ran sysupdater from menuhax and it pushed through... downgrading now... *prays to thousand buddhas and bodhisattvas*
Yay!! Now at 9.2 E! Though it wouldn't start with the sd card on. removed it and it booted.

You need to remove MenuHax by changing a theme with the SD card removed.

it works on any version up to 10.3 afaikDoes this work on firmware other than 10.3? I'm currently running 9.9 so I dunno if it's possible for me to downgrade.

i think you'll need to use SysUpdater instead of safesysupdater, it has an option to upgrade

This should be updated with an option to upgrade. No way I'm touching the regular SysUpdater... unless it was updated lately.

I'll have to do some research into this here. A long while ago I used the old TUSX/steveice updater and it did 2-3 consoles fine. For some reason or other (using menuhax/browserhax) when I do get SSU working and it says everything is good, 90% of the time it ends up crashing mid-way through leaving the frankenfirmware. (which usually is pretty quick to fix)
I'll have to try out upgrading them to 10.3 first. (most of the frankens come from 9.6-9.9 range - haven't tried 10.0-10.3 though I did format each console before starting)

I gwt the red/pink line on my screen - O3DS 10.3.0-28E, downgrading to 9.2.0-20E

You won't be able to use this on 10.5, 10.3 is the highest firmware downgradable by these methods

should I use safesysupdater on a n3ds or would julian's sysupdater build be better? I read julian's has additional work added to it and safesysupdater is based on the original and is missing his work. Which is truly the best to use?
safesysupdater works, but it if fails it fails HARD. You'll end up with a softbricked system.
Use sysupdater just make sure the you will use the correct files, so check it carefully.
So I'm guessing the black screen with pink dots on the bottom-left is normal, right? (New3DS XL 10.3U Cubic Ninja *hax2.5)
Like it takes several tries to get it working and all that until it gets passed that black screen.
Edit: Okay, it started downgrading until I got an "Error has occurred" message. I think it's now on a frakenstein firmware between 10.3 and 9.2...

I thought that SafeSys was faulty, but since my top screen is redder, darker, and more saturated than average, I couldn't read that my files were alright in the first place. Yay~ 
But really, this is super helpful. Now I just need to try downgrading with the regular SysUpdater __ more times.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.+1 -

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.+1
