So, I followed a tutorial to put CFW on a N3DS XL, recently downgraded to 9.2. It was a brand new system and maybe I somehow missed it before doing anything to it, but I'm noticing a lot of discolored lines throughout the top screen and games. The lines usually are a similar color to the graphic on the screen.
I put on reinand and Cakes. Installing everything appeared to be going well. Anyone know what step could have caused it or if it's a hardware issue I overlooked? I used this tutorial. http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial...g-10-4-emunand-coldboot-cia-installer.405589/ Was it already a defective unit or could I have corrupted it somehow? Thank you!

I attached a photo.

Most likely a hardware defect.

If it was I usually wouldn't mind, but this a Hyurle edition and I don't think I can exchange it for the same. I still have th recipe and am within the 30 day return window. Do you think I can return it after formatting the sd card? 9.2 is on sysnand. Would I need to do anything else? I did save the nand.bin, but would it even be necessary if defective?

Your nand backup is only good for that system.. And it looks like it's screwed. So, a new one is your best bet.. But you'll have to downgrade again.

I think it's just coincidence, the top LCD flex cable probably came loose in the inside somehow. I would just get it swapped out before it gets worse and they try to blame it on you.

Return it, but be careful to update it beforehand so they won't blame it on you for "unauthorized modification of the system software" or something like that.
What do you mean? I was planning on just formatting the 4gb mini sd it came with. If they do go sysnand it's currently on 9.2. Should I update the sysnand first. I feel like if I format the system they won't go through the whole process to check what firmware it is on.

Well, iirc the minimum firmware for the Hyrule Warriors edition console is 9.9. If you just format the micro SD, your SysNAND will remain on 9.2.
If you're unlucky, the person who will check your 3DS before accepting to exchange it will know about the recent hacks, and if he finds out that you downgraded it, the warranty is voided. If you update it, it is impossible to see if you hacked it or not.

Exactly. To be extra safe you can also do a system format, but that shouldn't be necessary.
Cool. I'll do that now. Thanks

Just updated to 10.4 on sysnand. Still has the lines. The update confirms that it's a hardware issue right?

Yup, that settles it.
Now you just need to return it fast enough in order to get a Hyrule edition and not a standard one :P
Last question. If I get a system on 9.9 is there a way to downgrade 9.2 still? Before I updated to 10.3, then 9.2. Is there still a way to update to 10.3?

You can, but you'll need another entrypoint, since browserhax won't work. I would recommend SmashHax in order to install MenuHax, to have a reliable and convenient way to boot the HBL.

I do remember reading that browserhax won't work. Was hoping it wasn't true, but oh well.. I'll look into smashHax if that's my only option. I don't have the cartridge, but I think the demo works ..
