Which core are you using? It should run better in Picodrive than Genesis Plus GX.
Ah, I was using Genesis Plus GX (installed as a CIA). I'll give Picodrive a shot, thanks!

EDIT: Using picodrive, I'm getting 21 fps. Still pretty unplayable. I got 59 during the sega logo like the other guy on his n3ds, but my o3ds is crapping out during gameplay aha.

@rygar Re: samples, in theory the MAME core should support them, in practice it might or might not. I was trying to figure out where MAME 2003 expects samples with some help from Radius, but although we identified what seemed to be the correct location, they didn't work loaded from there. So it's kind of a "nobody knows" situation.

The FBA core should support samples, at least, placed in a directory named "samples" under the ROM directory.
Thanks for your response. Good to know we can at least have samples in FBA. Be nice to have high score support in MAME though. From memory Android version of RetroArch MAME didn't support high scores either. Not sure about PC version.

I gather that current versions of Mame go for "authenticity", in terms of not saving high scores if the original machines didn't. Older versions had hacks to save them, but I don't know when it changed.

I tryied to launch Rayman for PS1, and got stuck at the Ubi Soft logo.
Can someone please confirm that this game does not work (yet, hopefully)?

The Sega CD by itself is significantly more powerful than a standalone Genesis. The fact that emulation requires both the Genesis and Sega CD to be emulated together suggests that the extra system requirements are not trivial. The Sega CD is not merely a CD-Rom attachment, there's s lot of extra hardware in there.

It is kind of a pain to figure out which Roms work, and which ones dont. I got the correct FBA Romset, yet when I go to run SFIII, it tells me I am missing Files, I go to MAME 0.139 Romset, and it works. But most of the Roms for them work perfectly fine. But there are some Roms that work in MAME .78, and some Roms you have to use with FBA Romset. LOL
As for MAME 0.78 Roms, go to TPB and search mame 78. Can not link it to here. You will need both Torrent Files since the Poster did them in 2 Parts
SF3 works great for me in FBA Full (using sfiiij rom and sfiii parent present in the directory) - runs between 40 - 60fps, so averaging about 10fps faster than you report it running in Mame. I even posted screens in this thread.
SF3 2nd Impact and 3rd Strike won't run at all on anything on the 3ds afaik.

I didn't try it to be honest. I just went for the oldest one to be safe.

Edit: Oh, and you can remove MAME 0.78 as well, it's the same thing as MAME 2000. TwinAphex renamed it to MAME 2000 last night.

makes sense :)

(if you ever have some time to spare to try to build that one, I/we'll do some testing to check some roms that allow us to have an idea of RAM limit/how fps are etc)

PGM stuff should be supported even with fba-libretro.. Did anyone managed to run say, Demon Front or ESPGaluda ? they should definitely work..

it looks like neo, cps1, and cps2 are based off fba-libretro, so the older one.

As for gamelist-gx versus gamelist, I think, and this is just a guess, that's for the Wii version of RetroArch. I could be, and very likely am, wrong about that, though.

Thanks for the input :)

that being said, when I just ran a fba core xxx(neo/cps1/cps2) it says FBA Cores xxx v0.2.97.30, so I could have looked there in the first place lol (also, Neo/CPS1/CPS2 probabbly havent been touched too much between .30 and .36 anyways)

about gx, that would make sense, I never used it myself, I remeber reading that some ram heavy games wouldn't run on wii like street fighter III 3rd strike, and the rom is in the list.. might be that it's theoreticaly supported if you don't take ram into account.

The Sega CD BIOS files need to be named as follows:

- us_scd1_9210.bin (US BIOS)
- eu_mcd1_9210.bin (EUR BIOS)
- jp_mcd1_9210.bin (Japan BIOS)

You should be able to rename your .md format BIOS accordingly and everything should work as it should :)
This is wrong - It's in the OP what they should be called and where they go:
Sega CD - Location retroarch/cores/system
  • bios_CD_E.bin (MegaCD EU BIOS)
  • bios_CD_U.bin (SegaCD US BIOS)
  • bios_CD_J.bin (MegaCD JP BIOS)

I am on a New 3DS XL on 10.2 using ironhax with the 10/3 3dsx nightlies and Sonic CD runs slow (around 40 fps) on Genesis Plus GX, but it runs at ~59 FPS using Picodrive but drops a frame or two pretty regularly. I also can't get Picodrive to look nice on the 3DS screen (I think it forces overscan or underscan so it screws up the 1:1 and doesn't look as nice as Genesis Plus GX).

I can't imagine that any Sega CD game would run well on an Old 3DS with the current state of things since it still drops frames occasionally even on a New.
