Hacking Can I still use a gateway blue in 9.x Emunand?

I'm dealing with a friend's 3ds and he is setup with rxTools autoboot and has a gateway blue but I know that cheep ds flash Carts and gateway blue were blocked after a while.
I have tried to install a ds whitelist and bluecardfix cia files on Emunand and instill can't run anymore.
His 3ds before the update (it was on 4.3) could run the cart but no more.
Think I can get this to work?

As above and also, I think you can only run DS carts/flashcarts on sysNAND not emuNAND (my DSTwo doesn't even show up on emuNAND)

Yes this is the downfall of auto boot.... Dsi carts only work in system nand

what are the downfall of that? accidental sysupdate? bricking console?
