Last year I met my Twelve year old nephew for the first time. I got him a Wii U and a few games to play online together. But sometimes he can be so difficult. I try to be his friend, try to be a cool uncle, even got him Splatoon and all the amiibos for his birthday last month. He seemed excited at the time... I dunno, sometimes he's cool, but sometimes he can be a royal turd. Like in smash bros, he always wants to put on a bunch of CPUs, sometimes even team battling 3 against me, and when I lose, it's my turn to pick the rules. So I take the CPUs down, hoping to have a nice, fair fight, then he kills himself just so control goes back to him, the jacks the stock up to 99! Then there's times when he just drops out of whatever game we're playing, without a word, then I spend the next half hour trying to dial the little butt nugget up on Wii U chat. He just ignores me (I know he sees the damn flashing light) and just keeps watching his youtube. What to do... :(

First as a question why haven't you met him sooner?

Plus he sounds normal I know when I was that age didn't want anything to do with my uncle as he was not "cool".

Kids are just like that, don't be surprised.

My niece(s) and nephew(s) tend to say I "cheat" whenever I win so it's not to be taken seriously. It's all fun and games.

Left my mom to live with my dad when I was 17. Reconnected with her side a couple years ago after he died. Also his dad's a dick and kept him and his brother from my sister for years. She got visitation only a few months ago, and now one ( the nephew in question) gets to live with her.

Actually pretty much every one complains when they lose

OK then well I guess just don't try to be cool as that is very uncool because I know sometimes it is very weird when your adult family likes what you like

Well the thing is though, he wins alot too, yet he still has his turdly moments.
Every kid does, its like when I used to play dual masters (remember that) and I was the only person in my family who played and I beat my family 99% of the time but when one of them one I would always be pissed and would proclaim they had a better deck or something

I've turned him on to stuff he didn't even know he liked... Like Death Battle. And Monster Hunter. Took me the better part of a year just to get him to sit down and grind through the boring pre- online quests, but now he's G Rank! He said it's alot more fun than he thought it would be! o_o

Generally when someone says they're "trying" to be cool, they're just coming off as a tryhard. Kids are surprisingly perceptive of that.

Anyway, sounds like a fairly normal kid.
