I guess the title says it all. I don't f know what's going on. It is super annoying. I had the unit freshly imported from Australia. Can anybody with a little more 3ds experience tell me whether this is normal or wrong? It happens when I operate the 3d slider until it clicks during games. Once I booted the console with the slider on 3d, I cannot turn 3d off without having these issues. If I boot up with the slider all the way down at OFF, it seems to work fine. But I don't know, my intuition tells me that there is something wrong...

Here's a video of the problem, it should suffice to understand what I mean: Video deleted

What to make of it?

Since it appears to be triggered by turning the 3D on or off try recalibrating the 3D effect, it's worth a try.
Other than that I recommend contanting the seller and asking for a replacement / fix because the screen might be defective.

No worries, anyway as I said since it's triggered by changing the 3D on/off after the 3DS has been turned on it seems to be some sort of software issue (big "seems" cuz I'm not an expert). I hope you have warranty on the 3DS or the seller is willing to cooperate.

Well I ordered it from Play-Asia.com and it arrived at my house on December 5. So it is very new. If they don't cooperate... I don't know... I just don't know...

I just quickly tried my Australian NEW 3DS (small), and it appears to be fine.
Slider goes up and down without visual issue.

If you can't change yours, you could always just leave the slider either up or down and not switch it.

The only reason I noticed it actually is because I collected 500 coins in Donkey Kong and went shopping. You have to purchase every item individually, so that requires a lot of waiting and buttonpressing. I wanted to lay the 3ds on the table while pressing the a button and purchase items, for that I had to turn the 3d off, and voila, there the issue reveals itself.
I hear you, Schizo, but... I don't know, that seems like a workaround that I could live with if the unit were like 2 years old. But this one is brand new, like 2 weeks. It just sucks..

Yea, but still, he payed full price for a device that isn't functioning properly. I'd have a fit if I ordered a new device and it didn't work properly.

It happens in any scenario. And it reacts to certain patterns in which I move and wobble the screen around, too. Like a lightbulb that flickers when you poke it with a stick. In that latter case I wouldn't think of a hacker's work, it seems more like a contact problem.

Omg...I just ordered a New 3DS Aussie model from Play-Asia literally an hour ago now. *sigh*
Op, that is not normal at all. You need to get that replaced. Usually problems like that get worst over time.
You bought it NEW in a box right?

yeah, I did buy it new, the box didn't even have scratches, the defect must have existed since its birthday. and judging by the situation as of right now, they (play-asia) are not eager to help at all. in fact, they wrote an email stating I should return the unit to them at my own cost (which is a little less than 25% of the price of the unit itself), they then would return it to their reseller -- I can't even imagine what kind of ways the unit will have to travel before it can come back to me, intact - if at all?? nintendo customer service of australia won't help at all, saying no australian citizen, no help from nintendo australia.

Well if you need confirmation I can most definitely say that is so screwed up dude

From a technical perspective it's highly unlikely that this will work, but try removing the Sky3DS and see if that helps?

I Have a sneeky feeling that the 2 zif connecters may not be locked properly and the 2 cables maybe of be seated incorrectly. (under lid)
Press slighty under the speaker while using the slider. does it still do it now?

I'll test that later, but someone else had the same hunch, I unfortunately lack the tools to open the unit myself today, but if it's really just a connection issue I'll buy some screwdrivers tomorrow and maybe it is time I took matters into my own hand...
