idk if its sarcasm but i ment when you first start up your 3ds to enter the settings they give you a choice to pick a langauge of your preference. i know this doesn't change the games but as long as the system menu is in english it should be fine
nope, no languages option on them

Nintendo's Japanese consoles never have an English option. My 3DS, DSi LL and Wii U are all Japanese-only with no English option.

That said, it shouldn't matter. How many times are you actually going to need to go into the settings? Not many I'd guess, after setting everything up. If you don't know any Japanese at all, just use your existing English 3DS as a guide or watch a YouTube video that shows the English settings menu.

Ha im just so nervous that nintendos gna push an update before my new 3ds ll arrives! I messaged nippon-yasan customer support telling them how important it is i get the 3ds asap. but they sent an email reply in spanish and the on the actual website they sent a message in english telling me itll be 3-4 days before it ships. ugh and its the weekend now too. and then i saw something that maybe on dec 9th there might be a fw update for the japan 3ds ll to support some werd e-currrency feature. but whats wierd is they only mention it being available on the new 3ds not the original models. so maybe it wont be san fw update

heres the nintendo article translated.

Suica is just a payment card in Japan. It means they'll be accepted for eshop, it's not related to security.

Actually no they don't give you that choice on the Japanese N3DS

Hasn't anyone never imported JP consoles before? All this you need to read Japanese is silly because once GW release their 9.2 update with region free, its not gonna make any blind bit of difference. No offence but i see loads of people scared not just here but elsewhere to not own a JP system because of the language barrier.

I know Katakana and Hiragana and zero Kanji but it does not put me off.

can emuNAND simulate a different region? like say PAL/NTSC instead of Jap

There's an iOS app for that. not sure about android. it's called Word Lens but sadly no Jap support

I just tried Google Translate on Android, works great translating Kanji to Swedish. I was thinking of getting an AUS N3DS, but maybe I'll have to get a Japanese one now just so I get any use out of google translate. :D

That is my point i'm trying to get across. Once GW releases their support only a few menus will be needed, as they claim it's region free. I think most of the menus the user will need are katakana/hiragana? Except Eshop and so on? Good way for people to learn anyway.

My problem with an AUS N3DS is the JPN one is around $70 cheaper. I'm not yet convinced English menus are worth that much.

I bought my Japanese New 3DS for around $160 USD, I figure that's much cheaper than the Australian price. I live in China and can read and speak Chinese which is helpful in operating a Japanese console, I also studied Japanese for quite a few years as well. I prefer the Japanese eshop and the Japanese language interface doesn't really hinder anything. I think buying a Japanese 3DS is worth it if the US New 3DS comes with some higher firmware that doesn't allow use of Gateway.

As good an idea as it might be to learn Japanese (or any other language), it's a bit of an extreme thing to ask for people who just want to use the console menu once. Besides, the menus are pretty self-explanatory even if you can't read them.

If anybody really struggles with the menus, post a photo of the menu here and I (or anybody else) will translate.

Well I do have a Japanese console and 2 USA consoles, what I do is use the Google translate app for Android that you take a pic and it gives a sometimes accurate translation, also the menus are exactly like the USA one if you have another console in English just compare to see what it is about and you are good

I hope it all works out because I already bought the Smash New 3DS LL off Ebay. Actually only a hair cheaper than a standard one and looks awesome.

If any of you guys preordered the new 3ds from ebgames.com.au you could've gotten it for around 169 AUD which is about 140 USD. Then again plus shipping it all seems a bit too redundant.
