i heared that wii u can be modded to play homebrew games so my question is:are homebrew games the pirated games that we can download from the internet to burn on a cd or something(iso or cso i think) so can it play those "pirated games" or copy them on an sd card like the r4 for the ds because i won t buy a wii u except if i can play cheap games because the original ones are really expensive

1/ Wii mode is the only one hacked
2/ you don't talk about "piracy" here, you buy the game then you play the back-ups on the modded console.

homebrew= emulators, software programmed by fans

what's the wii mode?
and by homebrew do we mean the official games modded or games made by people that don't have any relation with the official ones?

We may not be allowed to link to roms or warez, but this site is full of pirates bro and we talk about piracy all the time.
Let's not be hypocrites besides the 'temp started as a rom sharing site :P

Wii mode is the part of the WiiU that plays wii games and suck (vWii) that mode can be hacked so you can use wii homebrew and pirate wii games (with usb loaders) on it as far as i know.

Inside WiiU OS you can load Wii Mode (vWii), which is basically a Wii inside the WiiU, just this part is hacked, and it is limited to it (so basically you have more or less the homebrew/loaders you could have on a normal Wii).
ISO/Roms -> Warez stuff, copy of an original game (for personal use or for piracy)
Homebrews -> Applications written by fans (emulators, games, loaders for isos ecc).

TL;DR: you can't play pirated WiiU games on your WiiU.

The Wii U has a so called "Wii channel", where the console behaves like a regular Wii, with only the power and the permissions for the Wii (does not use the full potential of the console). You can use some of the methods used to mod the Wii (to play homebrew and Wii games off an SD card) on that channel.
You can't play backups/iso of Wii U games, or Wii U games from a different region, on the Wii U.

Read the topic (especially the sticky threads)s in the subforum, or check the regular Wii discussion subforum, to inform yourself about the situation... before asking really basic questions.

@Ace_Overclocked: Better be safe than sorry. Many people here also buy their software (I do, whenever reasonably priced -not Earthbound SNEs tier) and I'd rather not find myself promoting piracy.
Besides, saying he pirate games blocks him off potential answers. He doesn't need to say what he intends to do with his backups or how he got them. I gave him a friendly advice how he should ask for what he wants to do without potentially exposing himself to the risk of the thread devolving into a cesspool.

tl;dr: you can pirate Wii games, not WiiU games.
Also, for most consoles it's possible to get older games cheap anyway (possibly used).

What DaRk_ViVi is saying, is correct; there is currently ZERO "piracy" (their term, not mine) on Wii U. And that's FANTASTIC... because the usual way for entertainment companies to deal with anything less-than-satisfying is to pull the Piracy Card. Not enough sales? Piracy!! Oh, no AAAA titles other than our own? That's because "they" don't want to release their titles because of Piracy!!! Bla, bla, it's always Piracy. But not in the case of the Wii U So this time the ball is clearly in Nintendo's court, and they are going to have to work to improve the system and release games that will make people want to play that game (and thus purchase a Wii U).

That being said, a hardware solution to play your own and "undocumented" backups is on the horizon, called the Wiikey U. Not a lot is known (as in: for a fact) about it, but it is assumed that the (currently useless) releases you are talking about are made with/for this hardware.

There are a few very strange things going on;
1. the releases are "raw" (because encrypted) but are archived using RAR in the lowest (except) store setting hence the huge size. There is no reason for this; do they want "upload credits" or do they want to make it "expensive" to download within "the scene"?
2. releases are from unknown groups (PoWeRUp and FAKE), using the exact same format (.wud, badly compressed, title key in nfo)
3. All releases are NTSC/U (USA)
4. the only release not from these two is one release from ABSTRAKT, who thank PoWeRUp for the dumper; but ABSTRAKT on 3DS do mainly niche EUR releases.

1. has been discussed in separate threads and 2-4 can be easily verified using NFO sites.

Emulators playing roms=piracy.

I don't think most people here really give a flying f**k about older games no longer being sold or manufactured or no longer have profits given to developers, irrespective of said old games' copyrights. Emulators are gonna happen either way; rather would have those than enabling Wii U piracy. Old ROMs wouldn't affect anyone but second-hand retailers, not trying to justify anything, just stating that there will be homebrew on the Wii U, at least to some degree.

That may be true. However, it is still piracy. Don't get me wrong, I am a pirate and I care less if the WiiU allows ROMs old and new. I just own up to what I do without denial.

Emulator itself is homebrew, emulator playing a game you ripped yourself is emulation, emulator playing a downloaded copy of a game you dun own is piracy.

97% of the people that use emulators pirate.
2% of the people that emulate use BC consoles.
1% of the people that emulate use legit backups they made themselves.

Safe to say, emulation (for the majority) is piracy indeed.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
