So, in fixing my GBA SP, I accidentally killed my pimped out PSP 2000.

On an upside, today I found a 3000 for cheap, and its UMD drive works! :D

It's currently on 6.39 OFW, for what it's worth. So that said, what's the latest perma-CFW I could run on this thing?

As long as it's not an 07g model, you can permanently install the 6.20 (L)ME. Though really, you could just use 6.60 Pro CFW, and it'd be effectively permanent. If you're like most people, you probably just put your PSP in sleep mode rather than fully turn it off most of the time, which doesn't require any rebooting of the CFW. And even then, it takes maybe 5 seconds to start up when you do reboot.

Well, reason I'd want a perma-CFW is that at least now with this one, I now have two batteries I can swap between, as I was also able to have got Sony's external battery charger. So I know that with physically removing the battery, it fully turns off (naturally). That and there are (rare) occasions when I'm basically forced to power off due to a homebrew or game that just freezes up and won't run any further. Sad thing is I forgot how to downgrade to 6.20 :o It's been so long since I had to do it, and I guess I got spoiled by simply running 6.60 ProC on the 2000 :P

I don't get how you did that.

If you really must know, I was trying to replace the UMD switch that would tell the system if there was UMD in the drive. My desoldering iron ended up 'barfing' some built up solder it had sucked onto the circuit board... and from there, even after cleaning up what I could, it refused to turn on anymore :(

The only sensible option of permanent CFW on a PSP-3000 is 6.20 PRO, if your firmware is higher than that, you will have to use Chronoswitch to downgrade your system accordingly, but you already know that. ;)

Ah, so it wasn't in fixing your GBA that you broke your PSP, it was in modding repairing your PSP that you broke it.

That makes much more sense.
Emphasis mine. It was in an attempt to basically restore the system's UMD funtionality, because with that clear shell I almost would have bought a UMD game or movie just to show it off with it spinning in there. :P

**UPDATE**

How pleasantly curious that now my Go and this one are running the same CFW, and even the same kind of perma-hack, lol. :) At least it'll make version control easy.

Well, unfortunately ran into a couple problems with that first 3K... namely, circle button doesn't seem to respond consistently, and even more depressingly, the unit's inability to connect to the wifi were kind of a big problem.

So one swap later... I now have one that seems to work perfectly with wifi, UMD, and everything. It currently has 6.60 OFW on it; however, when I try to run Chronoswitch to downgrade to 6.20, it keeps failing with a CAAFFFFFCF7 error and won't let me. Help!

You're using Chronoswitch v5, aren't you? Try Chronoswitch v4.1 and report. Alternatively, this is also an option.

I've only ever been using the latest one I could find, which is 5. I can't find the download for 4.1 yet.

The downgrader confirms it too is a 04g board, so there shouldn't be any problems.

Just got it, put it on the stick, tried it. Downgrader runs, but the psp still rejects the 6.20 file :(
Did you follow the instructions from the readme file? You can also try downgrading using a modified version.txt, but there's no reason why both applications would fail - you're doing something wrong. :P

I remember having a similar problem in the past and it turned out to be a problem with the names of directories. Make sure that you copy the PSP folder of Downgrader 4.1 onto your card and put the update file in PSP/GAME/UPDATE/, make sure it's named EBOOT.PBP and make sure that the folders are upper-case (although it shouldn't matter, in my case it did). Run the downgrader from OFW mode, it's signed anyways.

... That's just it. All the folders are upper case. the update itself I even went and made all upper case as well. It doesn't matter what I change, it still rejects the update back to 6.20.

That's very odd. If you have a 04g motherboard, you should technically be able to go as low as 5.70.

Might as well try version 4 while you're at it. http://wololo.net/download.php?f=6.xxDowngrader.zip

That link does not work... at all. It just keeps looping me back to wololo's main page. :( And the mediafire mirror for v4 is down, too. *EDIT* Finally got the mediafire link to work. Put it on the PSP, but v4 refuses to work as well. still with that same CAAFFFFFCF7 error every time. :whip:
