Currently, the only way to download the Tomodachi Life demo is if someone who bought a digital copy sends you one of the two demo download codes they receive. What do you think about how Nintendo's distrubuting this demo?

Honestly, I'm not a fan. If they're trying to promote their game, shouldn't they just put the demo right on the eShop? The code request thread in /r/3DS is a complete trainwreck.

And no, I don't have any codes to give you.

Time to make this the GBAtemp Tomodachi Life Demo request thread then. :P
If anybody's got a European code, I'd love to take one.

But yeah, I'd prefer a "public"/normal demo on eShop as well.

I interested in Tomodachi Life, but, without a demo, I'm not sure if I want to get it.
I'd love to test it first, so if someone has an extra US demo code, PM me!

Might be a way of artificially creating interest in it? It's a bit of a pain, but it's a niche game, so they need to draw attention to it.

I'd say go for it. It's just a demo code. As for the method for distribution, it's odd. Almost as odd as the new One Plus One phone pre-order system..

this is why i like the old ds flashcarts, when they released those demo station packs and E3 demos, that was the only way you could play them, now that the 3ds is locked down so much those things are the thing of the past, i still have the old zelda TP E3 demo that the release at while back.

it hurts nintendo a lot because it hinders potential buyers and they loose interest because it's so difficult to to obtain the demo.

Depends, a game demo does not necessarily do well for sales (there is some data of that vs just footage). Similarly code sharing like this has worked for some other things in the past, though limiting to two and not having those two potentially able to distribute further keys (game milestones, time played....) is odd.

Well, I got a demo code from a pretty cool guy (one of the higher ups on a German gaming news site) and I gotta admit, I really loved the demo. Especially for the fact it's no actual demo (unlimited start ups), so I'm going to play it over and over again probably. :D

Do...you really need a demo? I made my purchase based on youtube videos of gameplay, if the demo means so much to your purchase, then "demo" it by watching it. (And no, I'm not giving out my 2 demo codes)

I'm guessing (hoping?) they make a normal demo available. I'd love to check out the game, but I don't know anyone who has it and begging on forums sort of sucks.

This was what eventually sold me. I just find it a bit strange that the demo isn't openly available.

I guess Nintendo is not quite ready to abandon the concept entirely and is trialling limited use, sidegame or restricted access. I am curious to see what goes for those as well -- a full fat demo might indeed be the lesser approach compared to some of the things mentioned in the previous sentence.

seems a bit pointless, generally people would share the demo with a friend they know......if thats the case they could just lend them the cart for a little while
