Fanny-Tastic game up to now!! ^^ Gonna be a family fave for years, this... had my kid bro nipping round last night, cracked open the beer etc...

I've since had a few goes single player this morn, and in the usual Mario Kart style it's just not half as much fun (looks the dogs bollocks though). Online I might flirt with for a bit, like I did with MkWii, DS & 7, but that'll get boring eventually too....
Battle Mode? Well that's never been the same since the still-awesome SNES original in my opinion. Worth a few goes in MK64, but got less useful since, so I care not what they've done there....

Fave track at the moment has to be N64 Rainbow Road - still jaw dropping (and an excellent move dropping down to 1 lap of course). Will change I'm sure, just loving the remake. Fave new track up to now has to be Wario's....

7/10? If you're a single player billy-no-mates, maybe - add 2pts to that easy if you play multiplayer though!

some people expect mk to be like forza and gt...well sorry it never will be.

@ people saying it's not in full HD...your blind or your TV SUX! it looks absolutely stunning on my panasonic VIErA TH-P65VT20A 65" in FULL HD"
@ people saying it's only a rehash or previous games and tracks...your stupid! there are 16 brand new courses and the anti gravity parts are awesome :rofl2:

some people just like to bitch and moan. i'm loving it so far just got gold in every course on 50cc and got my customization options perfect already on my moto the way i want it to drive like a master. will tackle online later once i learn the courses a bit better. that's it for today though i got work to do :P

my fav course: gotta be the electrodrome! ^_^

Forza? The hell does that Microtransaction game gotta do with Mario Kart?!

The 16 new tracks are actually something new, as well as, MKTV and the Anti-Gravity but considering AG's been on other games non-MK it's not anything I've not played before, though MK8 does AG better than the others.

More power to those who enjoy MK8 to the fullest.

you expected a nintendo game to be different than the last? you should have known by now that's not how they roll!

Yeah, you're right.

I was expecting something different because they gave us once in a lifetime the Double Dash game and then went back to the same Mario Karts.

Double Dash added the ability to have 2 items at once and character-specific special items. Whoop. While it had great tracks, so do most Mario Kart games.

Mario Kart 8 looks amazing but to me it lacks something that MK7 on the 3DS has! In my opinion MK7 is the best MK and always draws me and I don't know why???

Just my opinion, but I also think DoubleDash has the best opponent AI and therefore the best single player of any MK game. Can't compare to MK8 because Amazon just shipped mine today, but the AI in MK Wii, MK 7 were much less brutal and less 'smart' on the higher levels (150cc, mirror mode) than they are in DD. It's like they put less effort into the single-player side once online was added to the game ... imagine that.

Ok im really coming round to some of the new tracks on this game. The bowser's castle level with the statue that punches the track (idk what its official name is) is really an awesome level. The laser statues showing up on the 2nd/3rd lap and the swinging mace just adds to what is already a very twisty turny level. One that is perfect for some slide-drifting. Certainly one of the better new levels and also has one of the better music tracks in the game.

Eh, I never play singleplayer anyway. Always either online or local multi, it's just much more fun. Also the AI might just have cheated more.

Couple of cool little things iv noticed about the game that i havent noticed in past mario karts:

- If you are flying over the finish line and you hit the "mario kart" sign above the track. It makes a hilarious "bong" noise and flips the sign.
- When you go over any ramp and jump (to get the speed boost) you can change what type of flip you do by which direction you are holding. Im in the habit of holding up to do frontflips everytime i go over one now lol

Okay this game is excellent. Lots of people are complaining that it doesn't break new ground or the loss of battle mode, or comparing it to Double Dash. What Mario Kart 8 might lack in terms of new gameplay, it makes up for because it is much more refined than previous versions. The controls seem spot on to me. The level designs are compelling and downright fun, the graphics are gorgeous and the music is excellent. This game demonstrates that Nintendo takes the medium of gaming seriously, to a level of quality and artistry like a Disney film or a fine wine. This game is like caviar for gamers. Honestly battle mode was never all that fun compared to a good fps and some of the NintendoLand games pretty much replace it. It won't be missed. Double Dash was good but this is much more refined and worthy to be called next gen. Its a game I think everyone should have the chance to enjoy.

Slight niggles after more play:

There's really noticeable judder evident, most noticeable in single player - seems like once a second, like a duplicate frame, and I can't help watching for it either (worst when turning/drifting). Don't notice it half as much in 2 player split screen (which also runs at 60fps - or 58/59 in this case  ), and doesn't seem to be there at all in 30fps 3/4 player... Slightly tarnishes what is otherwise one amazing looking game, hope they patch it!

Music is a bit hit & miss - someone on here earlier said they'd have preferred not to have had it done by a band, and whilst there's a few standout tunes I'd have to agree: it just sounds a bit 'quieter' doesn't it - the electronic bleep and blips were used to, all running at 100% more volume, simply have more impact - some of these tunes sound like fukkin elevator music....

Difficult to nitpick anything else though! The character list, well meh, I usually end up only playing with one of the 8 we got on Super Mario Kart anyway....

Needs a patch to fix the judder, coz you can't unsee it once you've seen it trust me, but otherwise, still a fabulous game! Better than MKWii - will have to give it another week before saying if it beats MKDS or 7 though...

I don't have the stutter on Time Trial, only when the CPU is present on-screen, obviously a glitch that can be patched I'm sure.

anybody else finding it WAY TO EASY? I played 50cc and was bored as expected. Had a lot of time to enjoy the beautiful designed tracks, though. but even 150cc is no challenge at all. I select the slowest car with the worst handling and still manage to place 1st every time with 20sec in advance. that is lame! :(

online is more challenging, but why can't the AI be adaptive to players skills? give a a hard mode/expert mode or something.
