Hi everyone,

I just had the time to post this and would like to get some opinions on what to get my AP physics teacher for his birthday tomorrow.

About him:
- In his late 50s.
- Hates teaching physics since he has been teaching it for years.
- Hates the world.
- Hates my senior class.
- He is the kind of guy who says he hates everything and everyone and also says it to the people he likes.
- Never smiled from september 7th to this day.
- Brutally honest.
- Has an extremely weird sense of humor.
- Yes, he is a Russian.

Honestly, this guy at first I extremely hated, but now am growing quite attached to. He is an alright guy once you get to know him. I am as he told me the most hardworking student he ever met in his eyes. He greatly praises me (which is A LOT coming from him trust me)and always helps me with physics whenever I need it.

So what do you think would be a suitable gift for the guy? Something small and something I would like to screw his day with, in a good joking manner.

Everyone loves Neocubes. Especially physics peeps.

Neocube is the original brand, but they have tons of other names (Buckyballs, CyberCube, Zen Magnets, etc.). Apparently there's a recall on them because they're dangerous if swallowed, so if you're going to get one, you should get it soon before they start to become really hard to find.

*EDIT*
Anyway, they're small, relatively cheap, and it'll definitely screw with his day by distracting him from important stuff.

Sounds perfect! His birthday was today, but I can give a small gift next week. How can I go about ordering one through? I can't find them on ebay and I dont think I ever seen them in toys r us, walmart, target...etc.
This gift is really AMAZING! i think it is just perfect for him.It would be great if you could provide a link to a site place buy it from (even though i would prefer to buy it locally from a store like walmart but i believe they dont sell them in stores). So do you think you could provide a link? And about the hazard of swallowing, I have read about it and people are saying dont even keep them in your house? or is that just exaggeration, I have no little brothers. If they are safe to play with as long as they arent swallowed that is fine, never had that problem before lol.

I can't believe I never heard of this neocube stuff!

edit--
I also read about different brands, but I would like the genuine one exactly like the one seen in the video you posted, even if the one in the video isnt a genuine, it will still do. that would be great. Looking forward to a reply! :)

I found another link: MagniCube.

They used to be all over the place a few years ago. I've even seen them at retail stores in shopping malls like the Discovery Store, but it looks like they've been banned from retailers. ThinkGeek used to carry them, but they've been banned there, too. I didn't even know they were banned until I started looking for them yesterday in reply to this thread. Unfortunately, it looks like your only option for getting one now is through smaller online vendors.

It doesn't look like the original NeoCube is available anymore. I don't know if that brand was necessarily any better than the others. There's really no way to know unless you buy different brands and test the magnets yourself.

Wherever you order them from, make sure it comes with 216 magnets (6 x 6 x 6 cube). Some sites sell the cubes for cheaper, but it's only cheaper because you're getting a smaller cube (5 x 5 x 5 = 125 magnets). With the smaller cubes, you simply won't have enough magnets to do all the cool tricks you see in the video I posted above. If you want it to do exactly the same kind of stuff you see in the video, it needs to be a minimum of 216 magnets. I would even recommend getting spare magnets (or even a whole extra cube to keep for spares), because the magnets are very easy to lose if you're inexperienced in playing with them.

*EDIT 1*
If he has kids, make sure he is aware of the recall on these things. Hell, even if he doesn't have kids, he should know anyway. And for the love of Jeebus, make sure he keeps it away from his students! He'll be missing magnets here and there until there's nothing left, I guarantee.

*EDIT 2*
