I wasn't planning to update anyway xD
My 3DS is on the latest firmware and I got the XL one yesterday for this sole reason(To buy the gateway flashcard)

Gateway is obviously a better option considering you can play more than one game.

Yup, works great. Although there are some minor issues like legality and morals.

Yeah well the clones are begining to be sold and not everyone who intends to pirate games have bought a linker already, its obviously only the begining and nintendo is trying to make people a favor, they don't spend the money they'd have spend in a clone or an original GW and they get a free game...

Gateway is totally legal around here, buying it is not though.

I find it totally moraly acceptable to have a try on what you'd liek to spend your money on and see if it's worth the invest or not, we're not all richfags around here dude, like if the new dead or alive is out I'm not gonna spend 40€ on a cartridge just to see if its good, play it for 5 hours and then see that it's worthless and sell it half of its original price on e-bay, that is boring and restrictive whereas using a gateway you avoid all those boring limitations, plus you have a zone free 3DS which can potentially launch unsigned code in the future.

Sorry for wanting to make my life easier mate.

If you are in Europe you can change the country of your 3DS redeem the code and change back to your current country.(The game will still work)
That's how I did it with the Monster Hunter 3 Promotion
