NEXUS-5-1-640x471.jpg

After a ton of leaks from unofficial and official sources, Google has finally officially announced the LG Nexus 5 and Android 4.4. The specs of the new handset are as rumored and prices are starting $349 unlocked for the 16GB model ($399 for 32GB). One of the most interesting features is the OIS 8MP camera and updated camera app, which should improve the lackluster camera features of the Nexus line so far.

The new Android 4.4 KitKat will be available during the next weeks for Nexus 4, 7, 10 as well as the Nexus versions of Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One.

Personal note: Still waiting for the Google Devices section of Google Play to grow to other countries. Currently the Nexus 4 is at 449€ in Finland for the basic 8GB version, while the Nexus 5 can be ordered for 349€ for the 16GB on Google Play Devices.

So when did google get a time machine?, January a 11th was nearly a year ago.

Partially joking. However date codes should never be used in titles. Not every country uses DD/MM/YYYY.

Strictly speaking I believe international use calls for YYYY/MM/DD, either way I think we can all agree that MM/DD/YYYY is a silly system.

Back on topic I might grab a copy of the X86 version and spin up a VM when I get bored. Though many of the new features seem to be aimed to tie you to google services there are enough that it got me curious.

When in doubt, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601.

I wonder how much longer it'll be before it'll appear on the first gen Nexus 7. I'm also interested in the whole, "tweaked to run on 512mb ram" because it could mean that older phones could benefit from this but from what I heard, not ALL older phones since some are beyond supporting.

Christ almighty, I'm behind the times. My phone still uses 2.1 something. Old HTC Hero a friend gave me. It works so I never saw the point in upgrading.

It's already on it, thanks to Paranoid Android, but it has some bugs, along with the 2013 version, and the N4.

Slightly disappointing that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus won't be getting Android 4.4 officially even though its specs are more than enough for the update.

Do want...if it can get below 300 euro.
Seriously, Google really needs to update their prices in Europe.
A Nexus 4 from the UK costs waaay more than in the US.
And, sadly, I don't think that'll change anytime soon. :(
At least the specs seem nice. I hope it'll be able to run Dolphin properly in some time. :D

you can always install cm10 instead and get 4.4 that way (whenever cm10.3 comes out that is)

Not a big fan of Cyanogen Inc and their ROMs, but I'm pretty hopeful that Paranoid Android will bring the update to the Galaxy Nexus :)

That's the way every Nexus phone has been so far. A modified version of the flagship phone of retailer X. On the other hand, it's half the price and mostly the same specs :3
