Well, it seems to have worked. Every media outlet in the world is talking about the name of the next Android version, and none of them even mention what improvements it will have. I don't think you could ask for better publicity, really (yes, even if you don't like Kit Kat).

Why not key lime pie?

Because Key Lime Pie is probably an acquired taste.

I've read around that they opted for KitKat as way too few people know about the taste (or even know of) of Key Lime Pie. They wanted something everyone knew about.

According to AdAge, Google came up with the idea and asked nestle because its a favorite amongst the team and no cash was exchanged, but I still think its a bad precedent.
