A friend asked me to try fixing his bricked Wii. Apparently he was messing with themes, and uninstalled the system menu.

  • No nand backup
  • Bootmii (boot2) and priiloader installed
  • Homebrew channel works
  • Wiimotes won't sync, but I have a GC controller
I've researched, and it seems this is because of a corrupt/missing SYSCONF and/or setting.txt? Do these contain system-specific info, and what tools are there to rebuild or replace these?

Tried a bunch of times with both sets of tools, and it finally worked.

mauifrog's tool had a hard time finding the file on my SD card, and sometimes it'd reboot the Wii without saying what it did.

JoostinOnline's tool gave me this error: Replacing setting.txt... - ISFS_GetAttr failed: -106

What ended up working:
- Using SettingEdit.exe, I DID encrypt it when saving.
- I put it in a bunch of folders all over the SD card, and mauifrog's finally found it.
- Wouldn't be surprised if I typoed something in SettingEdit.exe one of the earlier tries, I remade the setting.txt file a bunch of times.

Thank you two SO MUCH for posting replies and tools. Why aren't these tools on both wiibrew and filetrip? Also, is the source available for either of these?

It didn't work... mauifrog's tool just gives me ISFS_SetAttr failed: -102 (not -106), What is the problem exactly?

I can't lose my hope, As you see I can't afford the Wii after it got expensive, The problem was in the Bluetooth module, I've replaced it by the old korean one (it has an Error 003) so I'm lucky, I got the launch-day Wii
