Hello guys, have been searching a few days now for R4i stuff to learn etc. So, I have a week old 3DS Ver.6.3.0.12E :)

I am thinking of buying a R4i and found this one http://www.spielite.de/r4ds-/12-r4i-gold-3ds-for-n3ds-nds-ndsl-ndsi-v143.html , will get a 4GB MicroSD too.

I guess this one is working on my 3DS, right? Why there are many different types of R4 cards? Do you suggest me buying an another card? If yes which one? I just want to play GBA and DS :)

Thank you in advance, hope you help me :)

That the best "r4i" you can find. There are many types of "r4" because he company who used to make them got sued, and the r4 was really popular so, the clone companies started to make R4s like you see today. Just make sure to tell the retailer to update to latest version. Any card except the Supercard DSTwo can't play GBA well.

Yes, this Card will be supported by your 3DS
"untersützt jetzt Dsi V1.45 und 3DS(XL) v6.3.0-12e!"
If you want to play GBA-Games, you should buy a DSTWO-Flashcard. It has a inbuild GBA-Emulator. There is no other "good" Emulator for another flash card.

So I guess I will email the retailer to update the card to the latest version.

If you want GBA get this!

Found this one http://www.spielite.de/ds-onei-ds-two/16-supercard-dstwo-.html which says is "up to v6.3.0 x- "

Guys thank you all, you cleared up my questions for sure. I will go for the R4i and later for the DSTWO. I guess I will have many games to play until then :D

EDIT : I guess both cards can save multiple games, right? Is a 4GB MicroSD good to get or do I need more capacity? Can I change the MicroSD between the two flash cards? Thanks again

Yes you can change sd cards. 8GB is my personal minimum.

How many games does an 8GB takes? Well 8GB.. its out of my budget but will rethink about it :)
One more question please , if my 3DS's version gets updated, does the flashcard updates too, or shall I need to buy another?

Just upgrade the flashcard before you update. 8GB will hold 100~300 ds games.

honestly, i would just save up for a DSTwo. The team has always been up to date with updates. And it hasn't fail yet (meaning the team has always come out with a patch for new firmwares.)

DSTwo is expensive in the short run. The r4iGold has gone through many revisions, forcing the older ones to be obsolete and people to buy the newer revisions.

And never update your firmware first. ALWAYS UPDATE the flashcard first! (or wait for a patch)

DSTwo plays DS game natively (like every other ds flashcard). But it plays SNES games with CATSFC and GBA games with TempGBA.

The dstwo is a DSi flashcart. It works in a DS, DS lite, and a 3DS in DSi mode. It plays DS games natively, GBA emulation is not perfect but works.

DSTwo doesn't play in DSi mode. It only plays in DS mode. The only DSi mode flashcard is the iEvolution which is obsolete.

And how a 3DS is going into DSi mode..? Do you mean to turn off the 3D on the screen?
DSi mode is where the game uses DSi resources instead of the original DS's. Currently no flashcard does this except the iEvolution (which is no longer update so no 3DS.).

I didn't say the flashcart needs have dsi mode, you need a DSi compatible flashcart to function in the 3DS. So yes, DSi mode of the 3DS is where the dstwo loads from.

You don't need a DSi flashcard to function on 3DS. Every single flashcard ONLY has DS mode not DSi mode. As I said the iEvolution is the ONLY DSi flashcard that runs in DSi mode.

SickPuppy, this DSi flashcart, plays GBA and DS games? I start feeling a bit confused now. Can you link/name me a DSi flashcart to check which one is?

Besides, I read on DSTWO FAQ it mentions :

"
  • Q:Can SuperCard DSTWO use on DSi, DSiLL and DSiXL?
  • A:Yes. SuperCard DSTWO can use on all DS series. NDS, NDSL/iDSL, NDSi/iDSi, NDSiLL/DSiXL.
Then why on the retail shop site it says it supports N3DS 6.3.0-12? Did I miss something again?

Dsi mode has 4x the ds specs. DSTwo works ONLY in DS mode not DSi Mode.
