EDIT: Managed to wipe it! I transferred the game to an Acekard 2i casing, then used DSaveManager on my DS to wipe the save.

So I recently bought Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D used, and it turns out that there is no in-game option of wiping the save data. I would like to do so, however. On the internet I saw 3 options for doing so:

1. Get a hardware tool (like R4i Save Dongle) to wipe the save.
2. Saw off the knob on the cart and use DSaveManager in a regular DS to wipe the save.
3. Use the Nintendo Save Data Transfer Tool on a 3DS with the same game installed.

Is there any other way to wipe the save data, or is that all the options? Also, does anyone know why DSaveManager doesn't work on the 3DS (because that would save me from sawing off the knob of my cart)?

yea, I'd really like to know as well. tried the whole corruption course to no avail because a few games that I bought preowned at gamestop had unalterable saves on them, kinda ticked me off, but they're back at gamestop and I have monster hunter cus of them lol.

get the save dongle, considering it cannot write proper saves to any new games, it will instead corrupt them. which actually good in this situation.
if any games you want to corrupt via the dongle are actually supported, just dump the save->hex edit it (overwrite with random stuff but keep file size) then flash it back.
for games that are not, just dump the save then flash it back. since it write it back properly, it will corrupt the save.

The reason why DSaveManager does not work on a 3DS is that you need to pull the flashcart out and put the game cart in, and from the DSi and up, the console is now aware of this taking place.

The other three options for my money are

1) Make a dongle like thing, I imagine the save writing code is not too hard for a basic programmable chip.

2) Bring the mountain to Muhammad. Rather than saw off the cart how about modding thing it goes into, naturally you do not want to do this to a DS but http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_nkw=game+selector+NDS&_rdc=1 might be an option more up your alley.

3) A tweak on corrupt saves, probably not what you want to do but here you would hold the write enable pin (if there is one) high or low at random during write which will tend to hose things up. If you can do this you can probably do 1) though.

Tried that repeatedly.

Before you buy a dongle or saw off a part of your cartridge, try corrupting the save data again. I can confirm that it does work, because that's exactly how I did it. Not only that, it was the same game, so corrupting the save data by pulling out the cartridge during the saving process does work for The Mercenaries.

I guess I can try that more repeatedly. What was the particular save screen you got it working on?

Thanks for the explanation! I was wondering why it didn't work.

The save dongle is the best thing you can do. :)

I might try convincing my local used game store to get one, because if non-erasable saves start to occur more and more, it might be good for their business to get one.

I happen to have a spare dongle sitting around here somewhere, if you're interested shoot me a PM. :)

Nah it's k, thanks for the offer, though. I'm going to try to corrupt the save some more. If that doesn't work I probably will just saw the knob off.

EDIT: I tried 25+ times and it wouldn't corrupt... D:

Would it be possible to swap the casing with one for a ds cartridge? Then I could just use it in my ds, right?

EDIT: I've managed to crash my 3ds twice so far... but no luck on the save.

Sorry for double post.

So I opened up a DS and 3DS cardridge and got the chips out. The problem is... DS chips have 2 holes in them where pegs go... and 3DS chips don't have these. So my 3DS chips isn't fitting my DS case.

EDIT: I have an Acekard2i that I opened when trying to fix it's spring, and I was able to put the Resident Evil chip inside it. Testing it now, it works fine. I feel an odd urge to go make a video of an AK2i playing 3DS games and saying I hacked it. :P Clearing save right now using DSaveManager.

EDIT2: Save wiped.

I can post some pics if you guys want.
