Yay, someone wrote a small message and showed a graphic that looks like it was made before Nintendo even released their first console.

Let me know when I can actually do something with it, thx. *happily plays on my Gateway in the meantime*

Seems like they are referring to the Gateway's GW installer when mentioning a certain "group" and a public download. So it looks like someone managed to crack the encryption on the Launcher.dat to launch custom code :O
Looks legit, I don't see how this could be a fake.

Ah, the homebrew running on the 3DS even says "Thanks GW! (for the way in)" so we can be pretty sure they cracked the encryption :P
Why aren't they releasing this?!?! :( I'm sure everyone is looking for a way to run stuff without the need of a Gateway flashcart (and be able to run homebrew, too)
Edit: Of course it's possible they modified the GW installer to add different code to the Nintendo DS profile instead of the code that launches the launcher.dat, but regardless it's pretty impressive that they managed to display graphics on the 3DS when no one else has done so yet.

We probably won't see a CFW for years.

You could be wrong on that.
Mind that when the PS3 was fully hacked, it only took a couple of months? before a CFW came available.
PSP, same thing.

Ofcourse 3DS's updated security won't allow for a quick CFW, but it could be that hackers can figure out how to create patchslots for newer patches (if the 3DS uses IOS/patches for updates instead of a fully fledged new FW) then CFW creation would be a lot quicker.

I hardly know anything about the 3DS tho, but it seems fairly logical to me.
Taking the previous results of the 360 and PS3+PSP.

I could be wrong, sure! That's why I said, "Probably" :)

True.
However, years of not having a CFW?
Unless nobody wants to make a CFW then it's highly probable yes ;p
But I wouldn't say years that quickly since it seems a little broad.
Let's just keep it on Months to be a bit optimistic haha.

I'm pretty sure the internet doesn't work that way. Unless this does end up being an actual scene where you have to be invited in order to have access to their website, but... meh. Like I said, I have Gateway. I'm not one of those liars who say they're only going to use it for homebrew, and I'm not one of those people who say they're going to use it as an emulator (although there are better emulator devices out there).

For the vast majority of people, this information is useless to them. All that's left are the people who can actually write code, hack, crack, etc. It's not a step forward, it's a lateral move at best. May I also mention how they say they're not going to release it, and are basically saying "Hey, fuck you, do it yourself."

Another guy(s) like neimod/yellow8? Smells a little bit wierd...
It's really impressive If this video maker has no connection with Gateway.He/she did it so quickly,Genius.

So basically your saying that this is worthless for us consumers and go to gateway?
At the moment, yes. In the future? No idea.

If you want to play 3DS ROMs now or in the near future, get a Gateway. We have no idea when or if there'll be another way to do so. What the video shows isn't a new hack, it's just the utilization of the one Gateway and the other people before them have found.

So, until there is a new exploit or they do some serious digging around in the current one, you're stuck with Gateway.

No some guy named KODESTROM released the decrypted launcher.dat (1.0 and 1.1a) on #3dsdev. Everyone there including lightenup and plutooo would have a copy.

a bit like trueblue for ps3, if you want to play games NOW, then buy it, but if you wait a while them almost certainly something better will come out, i personally think i will wait until christmas time to buy a flashcart/see what happens hackwise, but i bought a 4.5 3ds for that purpose now, just in case 4.5 happens to be the only firmware possible

But there was still encrypted code in there (ROP chains) so they would have to decrypt that and figure out how it all worked which people say requires access to the RAM (but is easy if you have it) so either they have a ramhaxx setup or they had some help.

It all good and well that theses people have done this but it only means something when someone has the balls to actually release something.
