Gaming What if we use a DNS server to "update" any DS to a lower version?

Who would love to downgrade using my hypothetical method?

What if we use a DNS server to "update" A DS,DSi,DSi XL, or 3ds to a lower version? I know that you can get free pokemon (and even make your own) through pokecheats.net's pokesav feature. I have looked online and nobody seems to see this great opportunity! I bet that the DS only looks at the filename to update or something really simple like that. We would just have to make it so that the DS operating system thinks that the update is new. Then we could use flashcarts again!

So, who thinks this is a good idea?

Uh, you can't update a DS.
You can flash a modified firmware using a flashcart and a screwdriver, but that's not the same thing.

Technically there was a straight software update for the original DS at one point -- it was to add wifi in.

Rydian said what I would have said to the OP's question.

We would need to get a update, modify it, and put it on the dns server.
Also, sorry for putting the term 'DS' in there... I meant to say DSi and up.
I'm talking about the newer hardware here. Since these new updates, you can't use many of the flashcarts.

Anyways, You could probably use NUSD to download a 'System Menu (Launcher)' and then rename/modify it to be a newer version (but old content). Then run a script on your browser to be a nintendo server and connect to it via dns.

Just trying to get around the updates to use my r4i.

You can't modify the update file and expect it to run. System is going to reject the file unless,

* You found weakness/bug in security implementation (like Trucha bug for Wii, a programming mistake on Nintendo side).
* You discovered the encrypting key by brute force, which will take forever even if you use distributed computing.
