Something odd.. I've 'streetpassed' plenty of people today, but now after switching to any mac address with attwifi, I can't connect from the Nintendo Viewer app, and it goes from internet to streetpass in the top-left corner on the home menu..
Try rebooting your 3DS

Nope, no luck I've just deleted the connection and started connecting again - it actually shows I'm connecting to the internet with the blue connection bars, before dropping out - now it can't set up the connection. I'm worried that somehow it's blocked on my device. The Mac address and SSID are correct and hosted, not sure why this is happening right now.. but I did get a good 12+ people today on the same SSID.

Thanks, I'll give that a try if I cant get this working (I found I need to do something extra to make the program work on the HTC desire...)
If I use your Mac address spoofer program, how do I go about making a hotspot?
Do I use the feature inbuilt in the phone or something?

Thanks

Yes, use the inbuilt feature

At wits end, I have a Galaxy S2 (4.2.2 Resurrection Remix v4.0.5), cannot fo the life of me connect using the wifi tether app, (using both 3.3 and 3.4). Anyone have any alternate options using Android 4.2.2?

So now we need to decide on what SSID to use. I stand behind attwifi 100% and here's why. I don't like _The Cloud because the _ can't be used on Android devices so it cuts out a segment of users. I also despise the SSID Bestbuy. Yes it works but it requires the added step of adding it as one of the 3 wireless connections. This is has many drawbacks. For one it takes up a connection, that's annoying. 2 and my biggest complaint, You have to power cycle your 3DS between each MAC change. Simply disabling the 3DS wireless, changing the MAC, and the turning the 3DS wireless back on never worked for me. I'd love for some to say it wasn't that way for them though then I'd know it's my equipment. Plus, this creates one more setting people have to mess it. People are having a hard enough time getting it to work, this would be just another potential failure point for them and we need to make this as easy and as least complicated as possible.
It would be a good idea to add the preferred SSID to the Prime MACs on the spreadsheet.

great but how did you get it working?

There's two ways that I got it to work, a method KaleoOmega suggested (which he/she will post later) and another way. This method works with a rooted android on 4.2.2 (with SuperSu):

1. Download WifiTether 3.4 here
2. Change your SSID to 'attwifi'
3. Check MAC address spoof and enter a MAC address available here
4. Enable data connection on your phone and start tethering.
5. It should attach to your 3DS and the magical green light of glory will flash.
6. Let the guilt of manipulating the awesome relay feature sink in.

Right, just posting the method Rizparky talked above (I'm a "he", btw XD). I'm using a rooted Android (Samsung Galaxy Mini) on 2.3.6 (with SuperSu):

1. Download RootBrowser here

2. Browse your files, as in the pic below. Data >> .nvmac.info . Open it.

,

3. Edit the .nvmac.info file with the MAC you desire. Then save.

4. After you save, hold your finger over the file until some options appear (pic below), and select "Permissions".

5. After that, do this, keep only the "READ" options marked, then OK:

6. Change the SSID phone router to "attwifi".

7. Then, restart the phone router, and 1-2 minutes, it's done. This should work.

Sorry for my bad English. :)

Strange, that file never existed on my phone. I had to figure the thing out myself, nothing on the Internet worked for me.

Mine does this on MACs still in the cool down period that I try again. Won't pull any net traffic from the Nintendo Zone either. Soon as cool down ends, it says Internet and I can do it again. It's been happening since I started.

I put last night's cm 10.1.2 and it does not have .nvmac.info. Wifi is on I access the internet np.

so i guess that is the problem. the file is missing it is assigning random macs every time.

found this

getprop ril.wifi_macaddr > /data/.nvmac.info

is that what you did duo to make it create the file ?

P.S yeah that does create a file going to change the properties and the mac and see how things go :P

It works now, it can connect again and it shows Internet and not Streetpass in the menu using attwifi on :46. I got my mii encounted there at around 12:30, and it's 8:30 at (night) here. In case any of you are wondering I'm not from the US I just didn't bother changing flags :P

It does exist its just hidden, go in your app setting and check the 'show hidden files' option
no it does not exist that show hidden files is already ticked because I can see the .layout_version file
so now I have created an empty file named .nvmac.info and I am trying to find what it should look like.
