Donate to the decapping fund if you wish to further hack development.
Or learn reverse engineering.

If you want to help their hacking you can consider donate a few to the Decapping fundraiser - That is having low confidence of hacking yourself. If you just want to hack the device for fun, take a look at the text - well hacking is fun for some guys.

1.You can view these threads first.
(There is books suggested that maybe useful, also tips for noob)
http://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-hacking-faqs-and-common-suggestions.345977/
(Please look at the methods before your job)

(Also Be aware of new things inside this)

2.You can communicate with those in channel #3dsdev on IRC (efnet.org). But there are ones whose temper is not so good. Yeah some noob questions are never replied.
3.You should keep track of the 3dbrew.org. (That's good daily news) Also that is document for hackers.

Hacking includes Software method and Hardware method.
The Software hacking is not so difficult to learn as the Hardware one but the Software hacking method has reached a stone now. (Certainly that is of 3ds. Cryptography methods blocked the ways to further software devs now.) You may found some hackers powerful enough have both the skills in the two.(You may already knew his name, but if on 3dbrew i suggest you chat with yellow or 3dsguy not him.) If you are interested now i suggest you to read some books about the common sense then the books about the actual skill you want to have.
Software methods: Network Analysis, Cryptography, Reverse Engineering(Especially the Decompling and File Analysis - includes RAM)..
Hardware methods:FPGA, Circuit Analysis..
Even there are fewer sections i can list in the hardware mode, that is extremely powerful - cryptography (which may be implemented in a chip, however that is discoverable in hardware) can be just a joke if you got enough control of your device in hardware skills. It can also provide you access to modify your device including those out of the SoC(ie, inner memory, analog stick, video output..), reveal the inner of 3ds (ie you can dump the RAM to look at those decrypted things, sniffer what exactly sent or transfered via wires), even change its logic (much i hoped there will be someone talented enough to change or detect the behaviour of SoC, ie give the rights to homebrew)
But be aware. Hardware hacking takes more efforts but it will leave you with the skills (which is not cheap for employers). You even need to buy/diy boards for your experiments. If not those who have enough skills in hardware not wanting to share some materials with other i would never sugguest such a way.
If you form a team with some aimed at hardware and some at software that is really good news for us (you can cooperate that is super effective compared to those working alone). If that is happened i will be very glad to hear about its name.

Also a tip. Never talk about piracy even you wish of that - when you are talking to an active hacker. There is no cracker now (in 3ds hacking scene) and please be polite to them.
Well what if one hacked the device to allow homebrew not piracy, then one hacked the loader to allow piracy (But do not pirate games himself) and some customizations, then some pirates use that hacked loader to pirate games. I don't know if the hackers in such a situation would be sued.

please Rydian. give some more advices?
