Multiplayer is a gimmick, not single player. That guy is a douchebag. Someone need to teach that guy a lesson. It's people like that that ruins the industry. He needs to lose his job and everything else he hold dear until he reach a bottomless pit of despair he can't escape of.

I like online multiplayer when it's done. I like single player experiences when they're done well.

I don't see the point in fighting over which one is better. Both can be fun in their own ways, and both can easily coexist in the gaming world. This isn't Highlander; there can be more than one.

Most online multiplayer games have little or no story to them at all. I like my games to have a good story, and most singleplayer games have a storyline. Multiplayer is great if you're a party animal, though.

If singleplayer games are a gimmick, than why do so many of them keep coming out? Assassin's Creed(it's multiplayer is a gimmick), Halo(multiplayer is more of a side-effect of it), Dead Space, Bioshock, Fallout, to name some of the AAA titles. Halo, of those, is the only one that's not considered a mostly single player game. For more obscure games, games like 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, it's sequel, Alan Wake, and the myriad of great indie games. Just because MMS games are the best sellers for who-the-hell-knows-why doesn't mean they're beating everything out of existence. Single player is like a book, or like arcade games. With fun attached to them

A nobody CEO from a nobody "social gaming" company calls single player gaming a gimmick and nobody smells the obvious troll attempt to get some extra publicity?

While I do agree that multiplayer gaming is best, single-player gaming is NOT a gimmick. - The Legend of Zelda: (Practically everything but Four Swords) - Super Mario 64 - Super Mario Sunshine - Super Mario Galaxy (if someone so much as mentions the 2P star pointer then so help me I WILL **** YOU UP) - Almost every mobile game Also, most RPG fans will mention - Skyrim

It's funny how when he gets called on his BS he goes all "me foreigner me no know how talk". I guess that makes English a gimmick.

It's his opinion and I COMPLETELY disagree. There some really good games that have really good single-player (Dark souls, Demon Souls, Mario, Legend of Zelda, Uncharted, Borderlands 1&2)
I agree with you on everything except for Borderlands 1 & 2. Borderlands was definitely a better experience playing it with friends, all around. Good shit.

But otherwise, who the fuck is this guy and why is his opinion even relevant? He's a goddamn casual/"social" game developer. His opinions are far from relevant.

to be fair I considered demon+dark souls and borderlands more like optional single player; while playing on your own is great in all, if you play with others the gameplay improves significantly. The single player in these would be the same as Diablo since you chose to play alone.

"Social Gaming" is the real gimmick. Gaming has been fucken social since Pong and now they act like its something new just like fucken 3D. It may have changed a little but at the end of the day it's still the same old shit.
the worst part is that there's nothing social about "social gaming"!
it's even more single player, and you just use other people to get more things in your game in order to progress,
but never really interact or play with someone else!
what a joke!
i hate how it's made to force more people to play

To be fair, not that many games only have online-multiplayer and mutiplayer is pretty much the main point of gaming i guess.

to be honest i've had multiple encounters with games i wanted to play offline multiplayer and couldnt, since they could only be played online multiplayer.
it's ridiculous that having all the people in the same room, with all the controllers, a working a console and a game in it you cant play a game that has multiplayer,
and instead are forced to buy more of the same consoles, more copiesof the same game, and pay an online subscription, aside from getting the console connected to a lan etc.
that's a gimmick to get you to buy that crap,
personally i prefer the multiplayer days of 4player Goldeneye or most other games like that on a n64 for example,
and havent felt any multiplayer since then to be better.
:nayps3: (<- not console specific =P)

Asteroids, Space Invaders, and Donkey Kong is where it all started, and it was no gimmick. I would kill to have an arcade machine in my basement, but then the wife would probably kill me.

Wow. Developing a single player campaign is sometimes harder than a multiplayer option. With multiplayer, it's easy to go...the players will take care of the interactions, and with single-player, you had to code all of the experiences into the idea.

However, I still view multiplayer as an option. Don't make me go online just for the singleplayer option.
