Can I play FFTA2, even though i havent played any FFT games before?
Storywise?
is there to many referencing about older game in the series?
would i be spoiled, or would it take something away when i play the older games in the future?

i can only play my DS now, my brother's PSP is very available to me, but its PSP battery life isnt very good, 2 hours max.. im really not gonna be in my house for some quite time, so my DS which is only 1 1/2 year old, still has 11+ hours of battery life, is my prefer gaming system now.. my PC is , you know, for PC games lol..

FFT > FFTA(2)
there are several reasons for my thinking.
First and foremost is the abomonation of the game FFTA, with overly complicated rules it completely loses the fun.
FFTA2 does a good job of remedying this, but not entirely.

However, no need to play them sequentionally, they are much like the entire FF series - no connection with other games.

FFTA ranks among the worst games i've ever played, so if anything you'll be doing yourself a favour by NOT playing it.

I mostly agree with mucus. FFT was absolutely awesome. FFTA was crap, yet FFTA2 was pretty darn good.
They're all standalone stories that bear little resemblance to one another, apart from gameplay and character types.

If someone agrees with me I like them and their post.

But yes.
FFT really is awesome, on a related note why not check out my fanhack of FFT?
It's called Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Girls. you can easily google it and get the proper dl stuff!

Let's not kid ourselves, most people are downloading these and not paying for them.

The 20 odd hours i put into FFTA (yes i know....i'm a compulsive obsessive completionist....i couldn't help myself from trying) are hours i'll never get back. And it's saying something when i actually stop playing a game. I've finished some really bad stuff...

I found FFTA amazing and is one of my favorite games ever (In change, i found FFTA2 pretty bland in comparison)

But yeah, you dont need to play them sequentially, the only thing you will miss are some cameos of character that appeared in prev games and stuff like that.

EDIT: And i easily played more than 50 on my old PC. I dont regret nothing.

You stuck with FFTA for that long?!
HOLY SHIT!

I only sunk about 4 or so hours into it before I realized how anti-fun it really is.
FFTA ranks among the worst games i've ever played, so if anything you'll be doing yourself a favour by NOT playing it.

It is one of the best games I ever played ... maybe you just didn't understood it ?

Story was awesome gameplay was awesome... I loved everything and I played MANY MANY MANY hours to try to get every single item and every job ^^
I liked FFTA better than A2 but still both were very good.

i cant actually believe that someone would say that FFTA2 is better than FFTA.

the whole game was epic, the rules are way to easy to follow, the story was better and longer than A2 and had more variety of classes.

ofcourse that FFT is better than FFTA, the story is more adult, has more classes and an easier leveling system

I have seen alot of controversy with this spin off franchise.
FFT was the original (obviously). It was gritty, and one of the best video game stories i have ever played. It was hard, required some serious thinking, and was very rewarding.
FFTA was an empty promise to tons of fans because of the fantastic game that came before it. FFTA was no where near as "good" as FFT. Classes were watered down, the story was lame, and the law system was a huge thorn in players' sides.
FFTA2 was the truest of sequels becuase it took what FFTA did right and made it better... For most players.

All of these game are amazing, if you dont have previous expectations.

I enjoyed FFTA. The story is silly. But frankly, the story in FFTA2 is silly, too.

The big downside with FFTA for me was the way leveling up and EXP were handled. This worked much better in FFTA2.

But I don't get the venomous hate for FFTA and the love for FFTA2 on this thread. These games are very very very similar.

Another fun game, if you like this one, is Tactics Ogre on the GBA.
